Sound without amplifier connected?!

Hello, new to 997 been trying to get an answer to my questions, so far with no luck.
When I bought the car (997.1 - 2006) the ASK amplifier in the frunk was missing but the white connector still there, unharmed.
The radio plays sound through all speakers apart from the centre speaker and the two big ones in the bottom of the door panels.
Is that normal? i.e. does the PCM unit itself output to the speakers and the amp only adds the ooomph and 3-way signal to the centre speaker? or has someone messed with the wires (which I can't see any evidence of).

Old post but replying with my experience for anyone who is searching and reads this post.

I don't know the full ins and outs of the system but I've taken my amp out to repair/ replace when I research options. I've just use 4 bits of wire, crimped a suitable connector on the end and bridged the input & output for the lower speakers and they work pretty well IMO.
