Tubi exhaust for sale.
Need to return to "stock" to renew my warranty, wasn't a problem whilst within "manufacturer's warranty" - now that it is the "extended warranty" all that's changed.
Being advertised here before Fleabay.
Has done about 5,000 miles.
£1,500.
Here's the blurb from the original suppliers, Scuderia Systems:
The Tubi for the 997 Turbo is our best selling product. It is a truly magnificent system and there is a lot of information regarding it, so it is best to break it down into sections.
Layout
The layout of the Tubi system is the same as the stock system- each bank of the flat 6 is individually silenced and catalysed resulting in a two piece muffler. Once again the system was developed by Tubi SpA with the help of their partners at Champion Motorsport. Champion Motorsport are the competition arm of the worlds largest Porsche dealership based in Florida, USA. Please consider that the STANDARD exhaust of the 997TT is a fully integrated system which means the cats/rear muffler are all one piece so ALL sports exhausts for the car MUST change the cats and silencer. The reason why the Tubi excels, is due to the highly engineered sound deadening within the muffler itself, and the fact that the Tubi system has 200 cell cats as opposed to the stock 800 cell cats. This increase power by increasing exhaust flow, thereby reducing back pressure and allowing th system to sound far more free flowing - releasing the awesome sound the Turbo can make if the correct system is put on the car.
System Development
System development consisted of three stages:
1. Thermal testing
2. Dyno + Compliance testing
3. Sound development (this is primarily muffler development and takes place in Italy)
The second stage of development was actually quite complex as it dictated the the type of catalyst chosen - a catalyst was chosen which was both OBDII/Emissions compliant and would permit increased exhaust flow to allow the car to develop more power. Dyno testing has resulted in consistent power gains in the region of 20-22hp broadly in line with the power increases recorded by the Tubi for the earlier 996 Turbo. (although at WRC Dyno facilities at Silverstone, the system delivered 27hp with a BMC air filter).
The key difference between this muffler system and the 997TT system is down to thermal insulation properties. The fully fared in rear section of 997TT requires a sport exhaust with better thermal properties (i.e one that runs cooler) than the tubi for the 996TT which can dissipate heat more effectively as it's lower-mounted position is more open. Unlike other manufacturers Tubi Style have built a thicker, ribbed, more thermally insulated muffler chamber which does NOT require an additional heatshield (the same was true of the Tubi for the 996TT). This is actually more expensive and difficult solution than simply adding a flimsy stainless steel shield over a red-hot muffler.
The new Tubi is less heavily silenced than the stock system so it is considerably lighter than the original 997TT system.
Sound
As ever, with a Tubi, the key thing, is the sound. Off boost, the well silenced Tubi is fairly modest - but now the car has a classic Porsche 911 idle and sounds deep and throaty like a normally aspirated Porshe 911 with a sports exhaust. As the revs builds, the sound really starts to escalate,, especially when the turbos spool up and then it's a classic supercar sound -almost a a V8 style roar from the engine. This system really is the best sounding system in the world for the car. It completely transforms the car - you can hear the turbos spooling up and down and when you hit the gas it sounds like a roaring spitfire. The point is, it transforms the car without making it excessively noisey, or OTT and even on long journeys, the low rpm volume level is manageable and sensible......
Costs
Tubi Sport Exhaust with race cats: £2390 + VAT
Installation: £200 + VAT. Installation is totally non-invasive and bolt on. It takes around 1 hour's cooling time and around 3-4 hours to install and is fully reversible.
Warranty
1. It is ILLEGAL for Porsche (or any other manufacturer) to invalidate the warranty on the car as a result of an exhaust modification. This is law and it's regardless of what anyone working at Porsche may say - Block Exemption Law 1400/2002. If they tell you any different, please get it in writing so we can finally sue somebody, set a precedent, and put this issue to bed for ever and all manufacturers.
2. Porsche may say that the warranty on the exhaust is no longer active. This is fine. The Tubi comes with it's own LIFETIME warranty which not only safeguards the actual tubi exhaust but any "related systems" which may be affected by the Tubi backed by Tubi SpA Italy.
3. You retain the original exhaust system which can be re-fitted when/if the car is sold or traded to back to Porsche.
