Hi guys

Typical isn't it, just had my 996 serviced and MOT'd ready for my holiday in Cornwall at the end of June. On collecting from the Indy they warned me that the rear screen is coming away from the fabric. Oh and my screaming ancilliary has now been seen by three indies, who charged loads but none of which can find the issue, whatever it is will break soon I'm sure, hope it's not the water pump (replaced 3 years ago with Meyle).

Looking at it, the issue is at the bottom where it is coming away on both sides, i have found a guy in Norfolk who will put on a new top for £1575 inl. which I will have done on my return. Ordered a navy blue with heated rear glass (will be good to get rid of the plastic one).

But what to do in the interim, has anyone solved this before? I have ordered some Gorilla tape and some waterproof Gorilla tape but would appreciate any suggestions.

Dammit went with the glass and hated it as the visibility is seriously impaired. New plastic is crystal clear. Mine still is years later.

For a temporary solution, I used clear silicone sealant (like you use in your kitchen and bathroom).

Thanks, i'll get some pics tomorrow, I think there is too much "gap" now for sealant or glue to work though, I'm rather hoping to hold it together with double sided gorilla tape then put a load of waterproof Gorilla tape over the top, it'll look horrible but not when the top's down :)

Got a similar problem but on the left side of the screen where it's coming away from the fabric. Spoke to a local trimmer and getting a new window sewn in for £300

I can see my "falling apart softtop screen" has gained major traction 😜

Well I tried today adding two sided Gorilla tape (sort of held it together a bit) then some waterproof Gorilla tape over the crap join created by the latter on the outside, it did "something", whether that stands up to weather or opening and closing for any legnth of time is entirely another matter.

I'll post some pics (for me to view :)) tomorrow.

You could try Joist tape that is used for Decking. Amazon sell it.
It’s waterproof, strong and is like self amalgamating tape that is 5cm wide. I had some left over from my decking and it has replaced duct tape for many of my bodge repairs.
