Selling a 4.1 Hartech car

So this is a difficult one, a bit of unchartered territory perhaps... how do I value a high mileage, but high spec and otherwise new underneath 997.

Over last 4 years I have been building my ultimate 997, and if it weren't for the opportunity to buy a mate's 997 GT3 it would be a keeper (why else would I have spent what I have).

So its a Hartech 4.1 with Carillo rods (£24k) built in 2023 about 3 or 4 thousand miles ago. Full suspension rebuild by A Reeve Motorsport with Bilstein B16's and a full DSC controller at max comfort (sorts out the ride nicely) that over £7k spent. Has an android headunit which works faultlessly, a Macan steering wheel with button delete (original headunit and wheel retained). Repainted front bumper with holes filled. I have a better bodies ducktail and centre exit exhaust which is not yet fitted - these were going to go on with an aero front bumper to finish off my vision of the ultimate 997 'touring'.

Anyway, its a C2S 2007 car, and has 155k miles on the clock (for those valuing the car from WBAC...).

Its got chrono and PSE and the sports seats in Basalt black on back leather. Its got fresh Micheline PS4's on the best 997 wheels - Carrera sports.

I'm not a fool, I know I'm going to take a bath on this. Not looking to recover my investment, just trying to work through the logic. If I value the car at zero and add on what I've spent post - or value stock high mileage car in late teens, and add on half of what I've spent - both ways I end up mid £30k's.

End of the day, market is the market, and it will get what someone is will to pay for it. But I'm not desperate so I might have to keep it - no bad thing.

Being such a recent Hartech rebuild have you explored the idea of them offering the car to their client base acting as an agent for a fee/%?
I’ve no idea if they would entertain such a thing but obviously you have had a lot of recent contact (and bills!) from them.
As you say, hard one to value.

Personally I don’t think it makes a huge amount of difference how much you’ve spent on it, there is a limit to what someone will pay for each model.

I saw your posts on FB and as someone pointed out, spending that sort of money on that sort of car means you’re married to it for life, or you sell it and get rinsed.

Your problem is it’s got mega miles on it and even if you’ve changed literally everything on the car it’s still a high mileage 997.

I’m having a 996 built with top end kit, mostly RS parts, full bare shell dipped and ecoated and rebuilt engine, it’s costing me over £100k but I bet I’d be lucky to see even high £40s if I tried to sell it, at the end of the day it’s still only a 996 C4S.
I’ll be keeping it for life.

Here is a thought, forget the GT3, you could strip that car right back and rebuild it as a 997 RS, the same as I'm doing with my 996 RS.

It'll cost you about another £60-75k but then you'll have a car that will last forever and will blow your mates GT3 into the weeds.

That's probably what I'd do and if I wasn't building my 996 (and dropped a couple of hundred grand on a 930) then I'd buy that off you to do the same.
You'd come out with a brand new 997 RS homage with the mileage reset to zero and a car that nothing in the 997 line-up short of a GT2 could get anywhere near and only then on a straight line.

If you let it go cheap enough I might consider that myself actually and mothball it until I can get around to it.

Good luck with the sale. I have done a complete refresh / refurb, and spent similar amount on our 4.1 - we even have the same wheels - but ours is a keeper. GT3s are great cars but the fact I sold mine (albeit a 996.2 CS) after 2 years, and still have the 997 C4s after 17 says a lot.
Saddens me to say this but I think you will be very lucky to get £30k. I reckon your work is worth at least 10K over similar mileage "normal" car, but not a lot more.

whilst there is a limit to what someone will pay for each model, as it moves up into the next generation of car, this is not any 997.1

You're packing a 4.1 Litre new engine, the WBAC value is meaningless based on all of the work you have done
Add £20-25k and that's being conservative, for starters
you've solved the reason to get a 997.2, so do i want a 997.2 with age and mileage or your car, the right buyer will see this an pay for that premium

The 4.1 is a major plus with the 155k miles going against it. As mentioned you’re going to take a hit but someone will buy it but I’m not thinking in the £30’s

Put it into storage, buy the GT3, scratch that itch and sell again then go back to your "first love" !

I'd put that between £30 to £36k depending on rot. Becoming an issue now on 997.1, especially around the inside of the rear aches.

new engine, new suspension
that's the primary age issues taken car of
IMHO

Yeah, but as Alex stated it largely depends on rot/lack thereof, no point in buying any car where the body is shot, regardless of engine. There is also the gearbox which has also done high miles.

aside from the usual gasket or plastic part issues, add the right transmission oil service it's not really an area of concern but I am aware of the G2 syncro issues
Rust with the parts on the bottom, not really again a 997 body issue

it's a fresh 4.1 litre with new suspension, it's a also a manual, what am i missing ? to why this isn't a premium car with a premium price
but I understand the point about the age and mileage issue and what could be happening with rust etc

If you were to put a price point in the mid £30’s it then brings in other options and most of these cars at this age have already had work done on them

engine rebuild suspension etc mid £30s i can see that
put in a 4.1 Litre and not forgetting it's a manual
the 4.1 is the value that puts it ahead in the crowds

just don't fit the better bodies ducktail, their products are poorer quality @davenwalk
