I understand Michael Schumacher is planning on starting his own F1 team when he retires from driving, and may consider a tie-up with VW Audi. So why have Porsche never entered the F1 arena? Given their great history at Le Mans I would have thought a move into F1 with Schumacher at the helm would be a match made in heaven.

Porsche have been engine builders for both F1 and Indi (CART) racing in the past. Their most recent experiences in F1 and CART were really bad failures (90s?). One earlier engine attempt with I believe Maclaren (80s?) was successful.

They have never tried to build a whole car although they tried to heavily modify a car during their CART escapade and that was also a failure.

Not a business to get into lightly if you expect success.

Ian.

Huge expense, and Porsche enjoy making a profit to much.

Also botomless pockets does not guarantee success in F1, you need years of hard work,

And it wouldnt do the Porsche brand any good, coming towards the tail in races all the time.
