Sat Nav question (PCM5)

Hi,

My 2019 plate MY20 C2S coupe is running PCM5. The Porsche Connect services for Nav updates expired in 2021 leaving me (even with the limited amount of trips that I have done in the 2 weeks of ownership) with a rather surprising amount of destinations where I cannot access full 7 digit post code entry. It does make me wonder how the nav can be so dated, so quickly. Anyway, that said, what is the best way to get the latest update? Do I need to go to a dealer and pay Porsche Tax? Or, if I'm paying out, is it better to pay for Porsche Connect Nav Plus package (£159 per annum) which I assume will give me all the latest updates?

I realise that I can get a third party wireless Apple Carplay solution which would give me 'Maps', but I do like the sat nav style of display and layout that PCM offers.

Porsche connect will allow you to download map updates and also use google traffic updates and smart routing.

You sure you dont have wired CarPlay? plug a phone in and check.

Thanks Craig. Sorry, should have said, yes I do have wired Carplay (which works fine and give me all I need) but I just prefer somehow the 'widescreen' OEM nav that Porsche offers over the 2/3'rds screen offer that I get from Carplay. Unless I'm missing the point somewhere?

Bare in mind with the PCM5 if you prefer Apple Car play but are frustrated by the restrictive reduction in size across both the Apple Car play view and the silly button - App size- this can be sorted.

As the system restriction is mainly software it can be coded to allow full screen access with the correct resolution. Therefore giving you a similar view to the 2022+ model years with the updated PCM.

If you live near or around London I can recommend Alex @ Vagcar Coding. who can perform this update.

......... So I decided to bite the bullet and invest in the Nav package at £159 via Porsche Connect. I do like the look and feel of the layout, and Smart Routing, Live Traffic etc all working as expected.

However, my Nav settings suggest that the software is up to date, no update due, yet clearly the Nav has been working (pre Nav package purchase) on an old and dated series of post codes.

Am I missing the point in where to find what I imagine will be quite a big download to update the old Maps database? My car shows Nav Database version P0292-EU-2019.2. Thanks!

In settings there is a link to update maps and this is done over the air. You can call Vodafone, they have a help desk who are surprisingly helpful and can guide you through it.

In Oct 2022 there was a PCM software upgrade which I had done for free when the car was in for a factory recall. Not sure what it did but the colour of the car in the graphic for the 360 camera changed to a silver/grey!

Thanks Craig, I'll call Vodafone as you suggest.

Whilst semi on topic, having subscribed to the Nav, I had been playing about with the online radio stations earlier this week and found some interesting stuff out there. However this last couple of days, the PCM hasn't allowed me to access the online Radio as it reports I have used up all the data on the SIM.

Confused!

Is the PCM reading from the Embedded SIM for the online radio and if so, surely I don't need to pay the extra data package to Porsche to have this functionality restored as my understanding is that the online radio is part of the Nav package at £159?

Or have I got to play with Wi-Fi/telephone/hotspot settings to get everything aligned? Should Embedded SIM be ON or OFF as also sometimes the Bluetooth isn't connecting to the car to even play Spotify.... Can someone help me with the required default settings for simple BT connectivity by default for Spotify over the air and also online radio? Thanks in advance!

As an aside, if i try to connect to the In Car Hotspot, I am asked for a password that neither I nor the independent dealer I bought the car from knows! Is there some way I can reset this password if indeed i need to join the car's in car hot spot? :dont know:
