Phil + a couple of others asked about my speedo refacing at the Kent curry a couple of weeks back and I promised to post the details. There a guy called Julian Reap, from Reap Automotive Design, who was recommended to me (unofficially) by Porsche Club GB 4 years ago when I brought my car over from Switzerland. You send the speedo and he refaces it with black "see-through" paint (so that the light shines through the dials when the headlamps are on) and then paints on the mph and kph as per a standard spec UK speedo.
It cost £80 back then and I was and am extremely impressed . Apart from the fact that he forgot to paint the 280 kph mark (and I was too lazy to send it back) and that I asked him to keep km on the odo rather than miles, it looks absolutely like a UK spec speedo.
