Purchase advice on 996.1 - MOT history of doom

Went to see the car today - the holes in the floor were the jacking points which were starting to collapse. Big oil leak from RMS. Pretty crusty underneath and likely needs a full suspension refresh. Delaminating windscreen, tired plastics and moss growing from the seals.

Car needed too much attention, both cosmetically and mechanically. Lovely spec, but, as we all suspected, it’s most definitely a ‘walk away’ scenario.

I know you made the right choice. How do folk let things get so bad on what you'd think would be their pride and joy. Not like it's a Micra or Fiesta.
 
Well done on walking away, some may have been tempted not knowing the full extent. A bit like a Pandora’s box but more expensive!
 
At least it’s an honest description

Somewhere I bet there is a chancer glueing on a patch from a biscuit tin with no nails to get it through the mot then sell it as a clean car

Buyer beware you really need to do your homework

There's plenty out there, I can 💯 guarantee there would be more nasties = time and hassle £££
 
Thanks for all the support. It didn’t help that when I arrived I had to ask the seller for a sponge or cloth to clean the car myself, as it was so dirty I couldn’t even properly judge the paintwork. Interior of the car hadn’t seen a hoover or even a wipe down in several years I think. Attention to detail on the selling entirely reflecting the attention to detail in ownership!
 
Now you have seen a bad one it will be easy to spot a good one. Happy hunting (y)

I can only assume at some point someone paid, I don't know <£8k for one of these, while labour and parts were still costly so any 'luxuries' didn't make sense to them? Not condoning of course!

That's a shocker and tells you a lot, it costs next to nothing to keep it clean!
 
At least you did not buy something that would belong in a kennel rather than a garage. Chin up there WILL be the car for you out there. Buyers market at the moment
 
I think it may well find its way to 9 apart or Mr strange soon..
 
The mad thing is I think it might actually be worth more in parts. It’s got the 18 inch 993 turbo technology hollow spoke wheels on it (specced from new and in good condition). Those are worth a few grand by themselves!

You made the correct decision.
Well actually the correct decision would be to not have even gone and viewed it but nevermind. 😜
As said, you’ve seen a dog which showed you all the issues these cars can be hiding, so you’re now more knowledgeable going forward.

I’m another owner who brought one upto my high standards, all be it from a much nicer starting point.
Me and a mate did a huge amount of the work but you never get that money back and remember it’s not just about the money but the time too.
Fair enough a lot of us like tinkering but you’ll spend hundreds of hours if you want to work through everything properly.
In hindsight I should have kept that car. It needs nothing but fuel and routine servicing for the rest of its life now. 😄
