Afternoon everyone.

I'm looking at changing the ICE that I have in my 993.

I currently have a SONY single CD and tuner fitted which is getting on a bit I think, and tends to jump and skip. The tuner is not up to much either.

I don't listen to the ICE that much, as I like to hear the engine but on long boring trips I would like to have a half decent sound.

The car has the factory speaker upgrade (490) fitted so the speakers are ok.

I would like to have RDS and MP3 playing facilities so that I can put half a dozen or so albums on one CD.

I have looked at a couple of units including the SONY CDX S3350 and the Blaupunkt Sevilla. The Blaupunkt looks especially interesting as it has a speed sensetive feature to control the volume.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I've got a pioneer CD/MP3 + tuner which works well, fits in the standard slot and has RDS and the speed volume features you're after. It has a nice retro look which suits the 993 interior well.

Sound is fine, but limited by the quality of speakers/amp. The head unit seems to have plenty of scope for upgrades if you require.

Like you, I only use it on long dull legs, once the going gets interesting the stereo goes off!

Alpine tend to be a good way to go. I have a CDA 7893R in my car which is fantastic. Its a CD/MP3 so no need for a changer eating up space in the boot. Most cars I have seen have had Alpine systems in them. They range from cheap and cheerful to full blown systems. Have a look about and see what you think. No point spending an arm and a leg if you spend more time listening to the rear end of your car.

Whilst on this topic does anyone know how to hook up a portable mp3 to existing unit? My 993 has blaupunkt cd player...MP3 is Creative Zen.....

DB500 your unit, depending on how old it is, will have input leads or input jacks at the back where you are able to attach pther devices. Have a look at the manual if you still have it.

Ray, Becker also do a unit with a speed sensitive control which would be more in keeping with the car as Porsche fit Becker as OEM. Try
www.becker.de
(they have an English version of the site)

Try giving Sextons a ring they are a nationwide chain. They do a lot of ICE, they fitted my system and are pretty good I have to say, they know their stuff.
