OK - who wants a widebody 993?

Isn't the lack of documented history over the last 6 years kind of a, you know, issue....?

Depends. If he's kept a documented list of servicing, and it's very likely that he'll have done a better job than any garage, I'd rather buy a 993 from an OCDer than anyone else.

I would imagine it's also one of the reasons why it's ~8k GBP cheaper.

We know these cars need regular oil changes, and the spark-plugs need to be changed if only to stop them seizing in-place, but what else?

Scuttle and chassis-rail rust won't be sorted by regular servicing. IMO the FSH on older cars becomes less and less important.

It's why the mantra is 'buy on condition'.

Didn't see that. I agree with the above but also agree that many will be put off by this issue. Having said that it's still worth a serious look at that price.

It's a bit of a shame that if the owner had spent circa £1800 over the 6 years keeping the service history up to date that the car would be superficially worth so much more.

It looks like a dog IMHO...

The dials don't look they are aligned properly and the rubber seals appear to be uneven....

If the owner was an OCDer those seats would look better.

Those seats alone look like they have done 100,000 miles +

"Classic grey interior, incl wheel and dash" Dash looks like vinyl can't see any stitching...

This is a key point, and why I try always to buy cars privately.

A dealer will take a car and over days prepare it so that it looks fab.

As soon as he's done, you have no idea how the car has been treated over the past x years, apart from the 'service history'.

If you buy privately, you can see exactly how a car has been treated, and crucially can talk to the owner - this tells me more than any service history could.

Anyone can polish the paint and clean a bit of leather. Only from the owner can you judge if he's ragged it from cold and driven 2 miles to the railway station every morning for 5 years. So what if he's paid an OPC to change 8 litres of oil every 12 months?

I'd rather buy the car in it's real state and bring it up to my own standard.

(psssst don't mention that I bought my 993 from a trader  )

None in York I'm aware of so Strasse in Leeds, RPM in Knaresborough or SCOM in Malton, all a similar distance.

can anyone post a link? Cant find it...

Didn't all S's come with aircon as standard..??

The DIY servicing wouldn't worry me, as it's only done 5k miles in 5 years, so oil and sparks should be sufficient, with the odd brake fluid change too... all of this could be DIY. As it was bought from Strasse 5 yrs ago, I guess they'd be as good as anywhere else to do a PPi..

Seats look ok to me, just need a clean, feed and polish. Dials look okay to me too..?? I guess a closer look at the rubber surround would be in order, just to check they havn't been tampered with. What looks like a ciggie burn in the back could be where a 4 year old has wiped a bogie (this is what happened to me... ) - damp cloth sorted that one out in 30 seconds!!

The guy selling it said he wanted people to see it as-is, rather than after some paint and a polish - he believed in selling it honestly, warts and all. My gut feel is this is a good buy for someone.

Unfortunately not - it was a rather expensive option...

Our black C2S had it but our Arctic Silver example left the factory without the box having been ticked!

Never did see the Arctic car again - if anyone ever comes across a C2S in Arctic/Chestnut hide fitted with 4S/Turbo red rear lenses and clears on front please let me know - it was a special car!

:)

4S has A/C standard along with other nice touches. The spec of the 2WD S was actually pretty basic in standard form. Close to that of a standard Carrera.

Lots of 1st keepers added 18" wheels and A/C to the spec of their 2WD S' and hence it's unusual to see cars without.

Not really seeing this car as bargain of the century? It just seems to have been priced realistically to sell based on its spec, colour and mileage.
