How Many owners would put you off buy a 993 ?

say the vehicle is a 1995 (11 Years old)..

say it had a full service history, done 85,000 miles.

We all know 1 or 2 would be wonderful, but many I have looked at have 6-7-8...

Would many owners put you off buying ? (would you not think that each owner has sold it for a reason, or owned it driven it hard and sold it on??)

Dan

It seems to be the case with Porsches that they have very often been through a number of owners because the type of person that can afford one in the first place will keep it for a short time and then move on to something else like a Ferrari or an Aston or a TVR to see what they are like. The average mileage on the car you are taking about is less than 8000 a year, so this would seem to bear the theory out. There is someone who posts on here who has a turbo that has had 9 owners and although I have never met him I gather that he seems to be very happy with it.

At the end of the day, it comes back to buying on condition and service history. If it feels solid and has the history to back it up, then it will probably be a good car. You've driven a few so you should have a feel for it by now.

Wonder if I could get a job at 911virgin?

Nah, Henry is a better driver than me.

Selling nice cars might be interesting. I deal with enough t**sers with what I do already, so it would just be the product that changes

I'm the 5th owner of my 23 year old 911. Some i looked at had just short of 20 owners (each owner keeping it for just over a year - sorry for pointing out the obvious, just pointing out that "play" cars seem to go through lots of keepers).

One thing to note, sometimes a seller will claim "registered as 12 previous owners, but some of these will be due to number plate changes being registered as a new keeper". I don't think this is true, but would be greatful if someone could shed light on it.

Guy, don't think number plate changes account for "new keepers", but i think one of the common ways for these things to add up is guys, who have had the cars as company cars, then buy them from their company & can often then transfer into wifes name...in this case you can readily clock up 3 "owners" without it ever having changed hands.

If it is true then mine is on about 5 or 6 owners in 2 years!
