Evening all, I have been a life long 911 Fan, owned a few boxsters back in 2000/2001, and also have a 997.2 Turbo S. next week i am to collect my 1996 993 C2, a friend has owned it for the last 13 years, I can’t say he is a fastidious owner but has spent money when needed, drives lovely and sounds as sweet as they do. It’s Turquoise in colour. The only thing I’m not keen on are the Cup wheels, i much prefer Turbo twists, and would look to fit a set, that said what are the fors and against? Keep it totally original i get, i hear that the 18’s spoil the ride? Also, as it’s a standard C2, what TT offset can be fitted front and rear so it sits and looks right? Has anyone fitted a set on here? Thanks in advance. Dave.

I fitted 18inch bbs lm's to my 94 C2 and it didn't make much difference to the ride at all.I suspect different suspension set ups would affect it much more!

I fitted hollow spoke twists to my C2, was concerned about ride but that was a non issue, a big improvement in turn in, although I’m not too sure how much is down to tyres, the Cups were on Conti sport contact 2, and I fitted SC 7 to the twists

Hello Morgy, congratulations and look forward to the pics. I had hollow spoke turbos fitted to my C2 by Chris from Exel wheels. No issue with ride. I ended up putting 5mm spacers to improve the stance IMHO.

i had the solid spoke twists on my 993 c2 and absolutely loved how they look - but had a set of fuchs 18" fall in my lap so couldnt resist - the weight difference made a huge difference so go for hollow spoke..............................i have also opted for 5mm spacers for the fuchs but not seen them on yet

Congratulations on the new car. I think they look great running 18 turbo twists. And as mentioned looking forward to seeing some photos

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I think the turbo twists make the car, I’ll post some pics next week when i pick the car up.

Which wheels will fit, ie, 18’ i get, what width front and rear and is there an offset i need to look out for being a narrow C2

Thanks Dave

keep the 17" they have the best ride compromise and handling

nah go turbo twists - these are the fitment sizes for you - you may need a strengthening bar for the steering rack going up to 18s though

Identifying 18-inch Turbo wheels (Technologie wheels / hollow spoke wheels) with the dimensions 9J x 18RO 52 and 10J x 18 RO 65 (RO= Rim Offset) is only possible when the wheels are disassembled. These wheels can also be fitted on the 911 Carrera (993) and the 911 Carrera (996). Refer to the TechnicalInformation, Group 4, Wheels and tyres overview, for the respective wheel alignment

Congratulations on the new purchase! As people have said already, go with what you like, but there are a few variables.

IMHO, If you find you are particularly sensitive or fussy about ride quality; especially if you regularly drive over rough roads then going for twists may have some consequences. If you go for non hollow spokes (ie heavier wheel) and a very stiff/heavy tire combo and your suspension is old it will likely have a detrimental effect on ride quality. Ie. It will “thud” more over potholes and ridges in the road and at higher speeds on uneven B roads it won’t cope as well as the cup wheels. However, if you go hollow spokes twists, Michelins PS4 and you have newish dampers, then you’ll probably be ok.

Just my experience with a few different configs of suspension, tires and wheels. By no means definative, although I probably have tried every OE wheel and more….

If you like the look, go for it. Weight more impactful than dia, so def go with hollow (meaning heavy 17 will feel worse than light 18).

i couldnt believe the difference the weight of the wheels could make - seems so much more nimble on the lighter wheels

Totally agree. I had Oz Racing make up some lightweights. Made the car feel alive and frankly I could never go back (hence a set of cups and a set of hollows sat unused in my garage).
Wheel Dimensions (NB)
Fronts - 8jx18" ET52
Rears - 10jx18" ET65
And for ref, tyres
Front 225/40/18
Rear 265/35/18

Roughly Front 2.5kg Rear 3.5 each corner. That's a load of unsprung mass.
