Well, wishful thinking maybe, but just done a cracking deal for Insurance renewal.

Was insured for my first years 911 motoring with the leader of the navy for £1100 fully comp, 5000 miles, 4 yrs NCB and central London postcode. Renewal came through last week at £950. Shopped around and the little red telephone offered £760. Went back to the navy to see if they could do better, but could/would not do below £904.

Had a trawl through the back pages of one of the mags last night and amongst others tried Lumley's lot. £640 all in, same basis as before and with Mrs F added as well (Schhhh, no-one tell her please!)

This morning I am mostly well chuffed :D

Prestige isn't it?

Sundeep passed on Sean's recommendation of Bickley Insurance Services. Chris surprised himself when he was able to offer cheaper cover than my current insurer, with the better half added as well. Turned out it was still with Norwich Union though cheaper than they had quoted me direct. Better policy terms as well.

????????

I know it might be different as its a 'classic' policy, but I seem to have got a deal here in Norn Iron, which is usually horrendously expensive for car Insurance (if they even cover us). £410 pounds fully comp for a 90 Targa 2 for Mrs McB and myself, 5000 miles and drive to work cover. You need to have a 'first car' insured as your everyday runner, but I think most people are in that category.

The only worry I have with it is a small clause stating that the car must not be left in a public car park or street after 10pm. That sort of rules it out for going to our local pub for a quick late pint or a weekend jolly off somewhere. Doesn't really affect it 99% of the time, but still something to write a letter about (which I must do soon!)

www.privilege.com

Because I asked for a quote last year, Liv Vic have just sent me TWO unsolicited quotes, both dated the same day, on exactly the same basis, for £1264 and £1366! Good to know they are in control!

£640 wow, I've just signed up with masterquote from confused.com and they are £798 with breakdown cover and 10k restriction. I also have the Mrs on the policy just in case we drove out to a nice pub and i decided to have a few pints... like that would happen when driving the poka

It is something of a bore. Every site asks the same questions. The one site that should make it easy,
www.confused.com
, throws up the strangest results with insurers that you know will quote, saying they choose not to, or they won't quote because a Porsche is "an imported car". Not going to have much of a business in future if they only quote on UK built cars then are they?

Worth bearing in mind that adding 'er indoors (depending on her record!) and use for commuting may actually reduce your premium as insurers regard such use as lower risk than the limited mileage leisure use only, which they know generally involves the car being taken out once a week and given a damn good thrashing!

I'm shopping around for Insurance on my 96 Targa at the moment. Last year was with Liverpool Victoria and not expecting them to be good this year.

So far best quote for me is £617 with £500XS, Protected, 10k per annum SD&P, foregin use, through Peart and underwritten by Royal Sun Alliance. Take £20 off coz I don't want legal cover makes it £597.

Next best quote was Norwich Union Direct at £646 same parameters as above.

I'm 33, clean licence, wife on the policy, car garaged and a suburban Birmingham postcode. Last year I paid £665, so I'm pretty happy.

Got my renewal from Norwich Union for £1650, then went to confused.com where Admiral came in at £850, Norwich Union were also listed at £1050, £600 less then my renewal quote!!!!! When I phoned them to ask why I was told this was a special online price for new customers and if I wanted it I would have to cancel rather than renew my existing policy and take out the new one! Suffice to say they did not quote me happy. Appears Insurance companies like mortgage companies shaft their existing customers - so it's always worth shopping around.
