iPod and 993

Now that I'm getting into this new-fangled MP3 thing, I've been thinking of ways of getting an iPod [or similar device] non-permanently plugged into my 993 [fitted with CDR-21 head unit and 6 CD changer unit].

Powering the player isn't an issue - but getting the audio into the head unit is: everyone tells me the CDR-21 doesn't have auxiliary line-in inputs to connect another sound source [unlike the CDR-22s in the 996 which has an aux in]. The only other option seems to be an iTrip-type low power FM transmitter - but friends and web reviews suggest they don't work very well unless you have a good FM aerial [and 993's seem under-endowed in that area]. Incidentally, iTrip's also seem to be illegal in UK at the moment. The other option, of course, is to swap the head unit but I'd rather keep the original one if I can.

So if someone out there has successfully installed an MP3 player in a 993, how did you do it? If you have an iTrip, how well does it work in a 993?

It is not the best solution from the quality point of view and from the design point of view but I got, many years ago, a device that fit the cassette (as a standard one) and have a line out to be connected to any device. I cannot remember where I bought it but I am sure you may easily find this in a car stereo shop. Mine is in my boat now but as soon as I will go there I will take a picture of it and post it with the manufactory details (if any marked on) that probably gives a better idea of the device then my explaination.

You will have the line coming out from the cassette device but a part of the design problem this is for sure a non-permanent plug as you can take it away just ejecting the cassette.

I don't think Abdul has a tape deck!

I have tried that with my ipod in my old 964 and the qulaity is not good, underpowered.
