I have a 996 4S with the on board computer,when trying to use the in car phone system can i just put my SIM card in and it should would or is there anything i need to activate via the computer,when i put the SIM in and press Telephone it says Telephone unavailable..can anyone help?

All PCM units had the tray, but you had to specify the telephone module also.

This means that it has not got the telephone module installed.

Original owner did not tick the box and wasted a good chance to have it for only £300.

If you want to retro fit it the cost with parts is £1000 - £1500. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

I have the same prob and Daz is spot on about the cost of the retro fit. Recently had a chat with a specialist in this area and he recommends this piece of kit for Porsche owners looking for a good compromise. Parrot 3200 LS - Colour - is discreet, doesnt damage the car in fitment. You cannot patch into the PCM though for auto volume reduction as Porsche make it impossible, so biggest downside is turning Dave Gilmour down for a sec when the phone rings. I got quoted about £310.00 fully fitted and will have it done shortly. No I'm not connected in any way to the product, it does look very good quality though without messing the car up.
