Help identifying Aerokit part: radiator blank

Nothing is definite at this point! I did read another forum post from the states where they accused that part number of being a ‘blank’.

Even if I don’t actually cut the bumper at the weekend I’ll at least dig it out and take a proper look. Will shoot you a PM.

Things are now a bit clearer, after taking a proper look at both bumpers today. Here is the new one:

The moulding is the same part number and revision as my original one (983 01) and the 985 part is not a blank. It's a rubber guide placed there to interface with the inlet duct on the radiator. It's part of a set of three, each with their own part number. I offered up one of the main radiator inlet ducts, and I'm now pretty certain that this bumper is not supposed to work with any type of insert.

I took a closer look at my old bumper, and found that the central hole is blanked off in the moulding and has not been stuck in as it appears. The sealant/adhesive is only there to hold the 985 guide part in. I can't fathom why they would have installed this part on a car without the central radiator, unless it was fitted to all bumpers. This would have made it very difficult to cut to the correct line though, because it is under the sealant. I removed the rubber guide thing to confirm.

I have cut out the blank, leaving plenty of meat to trim down later. Not quite sure how I will end up finishing or sticking this in yet. It looks like I might need to remove the rubber guide thing from the new bumper in order to give some material to purchase on.

I still want to track down the part fitted to the white and blue cars in the first post, but at least now I have a decent back up plan.

That now makes a lot more sense. Mine has the two outer mouldings, but not the central one. I would imagine that replacement bumpers very well may come with all three rubber locators fitted to cater for GT3 and regular Aero cars, rather than two seperate parts?

Just one other thing that might be relevent, having looked back at the white and blue cars at the start of your post, they both appear to have that exact same dark grey colour to the rear of the recess where the 'blank' is.

My car has the same thing, in the exact same colour, and from any kind of distance also looks to have a blank fitted. I wonder if the Aero cars came with this part already painted in that dark grey, as it appears to be painted, or possibly a very heavy duty decal. Food for thought as whilst they may look like a blank, they could just be coloured. Seems coincidental that mine is exactly the same and is complete in one piece.

Ha, yeah, how strange. Maybe it is all an illusion. Perhaps they just started painting the centre black because it looked odd to have that in body colour. I think your car probably holds the answer, because it's the only one I've seen from both the front and the back.

I wonder how they masked them all up in the same place without a mould line on the outside. Feels like a right faff...

If it's a decal, it's pretty simple. if painted, I imagine the recess was covered in a film which, where a skillful and experienced hand could cut out the central rear most 'wall' with a special tool or raazr blade, rather than mask off with tape. It's original and not THE most accurate thing I've ever seen.
