he loves it really!

Guards Red?
It doesn't look very bright.

He's right about the cars though, they always need something doing, but that's my experience of anything that's a couple of decades old, it's always a work in progress because they weren't ever really meant to last for decades, especially on nasty UK roads full of grime and road filth.

Paid a lot for the car. He really ought to have done his homework first before buying.

Looks more like Zanzibar

That’s what I thought. There was a Zanzibar one floating around a couple of years ago in exactly that spec.

On the one hand I kind of agree with him, if you buy a high end German car then surely you shouldn’t have to do hours of research into all the ways they can empty your wallet, I did just about zero research into my Nissan Patrol before I bought it new, I just assumed it would be reliable and it has been, I bought it in 2014 and I’ve put 135,000 kms on it without a hitch.

You definitely can’t do that with a 911.

You have to treat them like kit cars, always something needed, nothing fits perfectly, etc.

My 997 is terrible quality under the skin, especially compared to my air-cooled cars, but then I can say that about anything, my grandparents had a big old refrigerator from the 1950s that lasted well beyond when they died in the late 1990s, these days you get a few years out of one and the compressor packs up.

I think it's the camera. Mine is Zanzibar and you can see the pearl colour shift as you walk round it, where on the video it just looks flat.
The MOT history for the car isn't hugely flattering and also shows the generic DVLA assigned colour as red, where DLVA assigned orange to Zanzibar.
Zanzibar was not available on the 98 model year, although I guess that could be an early 99 car.
My call is guards.

In regards to his assessment, I always ask, "compared to what other 25 year old, 125k miles sports car that is driven as a daily 365 days a year"?

It is Guards Red. I was following his Instagram for a few weeks, and then realised it was just annoying.

Zanzibar is gorgeous, but then so is proper Guards Red in the flesh, the depth of it is stunning, the pictures just make it look like any other standard red but I've never failed to be impressed by a nice Guards Red 911 and that doesn't look like proper Guards Red to me.

Looks more accurate here…quite liking the wheels on it I have to say

It's one of the all time classic reds for sure, alongside BMW Imola red and Volkswagen Tornado red. And of course, the 80's90's version of Ferrari Rosso Corsa.
