GT4 for sure

What’s the intended use?

Depends how old you are as well . At 55 I'd go GT3 all day long but if I was 10yrs younger GT4 for sure.

If it was track, I’d take the younger car. Quicker and less mtce due to the age.
If it was mainly road use then the 996, more of an occasion in one of the true Porsche icons.

^^^^ as above but if it was for road use I’d buy half a touring :ROFLMAO:

911 without question, I’ve always been disappointed by the GT4, it doesn’t feel special and there are better and cheaper cars, I’d rather have a Lotus.

GT3.

It won’t be as quick, but that 996 is visceral (it shakes while idling) and sounds amazing. It has balance and poise. Have a feeling as long as it’s shocks are fresh will ride better on our crappy roads! Money wise, it will hold value rather than depreciate.. but on balance will cost more to maintain…

718 is a safe bet but doesn’t have that engine.. it has has a good engine, but not a screaming Mezger!

I’ve driven both and adore all things Porsche.. That GT3 is stunning and rare 👈🏽

If you want a clean fast modern faultless Porsche, the GT4… if you want an adventure with something truly special.. GT3 (caveat - definitely get it checked by someone independent instead of just trusting cos it’ll be extremely expensive to sort out if it isn’t “current”).

Good luck. B

I also think Harbour give a bumper to bumper warranty so I’d want to check any limitations on that but if it’s a proper one then I wouldn’t be too worried about mechanical stuff - which to be fair for a lot of people would make a big difference because of the age difference.

I went through almost this exact dilemma late last year, comparing 997.1 GT3 or a nearly new GT4.

As the intended use is a weekend/fun car I went with the GT3 - on the road it just feels more special and more of an occasion than the GT4. I did try a GT4 on track and they are wildly capable track cars, but I just wanted something that felt more special for occasional use.

I recently sold my 996 turbo and had the dilemma of 996.2 GT3 / 997.1 GT3 / 981 GT4.

With my use generally being circa 8-10k per year, a handful of multi day driving tours and such with a handful of trackdays thrown into the mix I opted for the 981 GT4.
It suited my business case the best being the younger car with likely less maintenance outside of the regular servicing.

Granted it won’t suit everyone’s needs as “it’s not a 911”, but with the rose tinted glasses firmly removed the GT4’s are worthy of serious credit for both a sense of occasion and feel.

FWIW it’s a clubsport car with ceramics I opted for.
The buckets were simply a must, and certainly add to the special feeling.

That's a tough one; heart (GT3) or head (GT4)? And at least at this point, I've not scratched the mid-engined itch ...
