I have just purchased my first porsche a 2003 996 c4s in meridian silver,Xennon lights,Sports Exhaust,Bose,SAt nav ect

Well any way i have always wanted to get a porsche 911 but was unsure if they where reliable so looked at a few reviews and found they had a good right up so whent for it.

I purchased from the main dealer for peice of mind but have had nothing but hassle first of all when collecting the car i asked about the stiff clutch and was told it was normal but now after only 7 weeks it has just had a new clutch and fly wheel £2k bill then a wheel bearing £390.00 and now it needs a new screen as it is creeking bad.

Is this normal for a 26,000 mile car or do you think i hav a lemon I hope that nothing else goes wrong with the car as this is is my dream car and did not want it to turn in to a knightmare and altohugh all of the problems i love driving it and find that i take the long way to where i am going.

vincent, firstly congrats on the car. Great choice!

From my experience, i think you have been a bit unlucky. Seems a bit unfair re the new clutch, but i'm not sure what case you could have had with the OPC.

Hopefully you'll have some trouble-free motoring now. My cars at 38k miles having had it for 8 mths and a recent flat battery is the first problem i've had.

Incidently, do you have an extended warranty?

Hi,

Excellent choice, I am still in a state of happyness having picked up my C4S Friday. I would really throw your teddy as you clearly stated there was a clutch issue on pick up. The clutches are not normally stiff so the guy was talking nonsense.

Surely this would have been picked up on the 111 point check and they would have to have remedied it. Did you get a copy of the 111 point check???

Cheers Alan.

no good point i did not get a copy of the 111 point check and yes the car has 1 years warranty.

I will be looking in to this further with trading standards and hopefully i might get something back from the dealer but i wont hold my breath but in the meantime i will keep using the car and hope it does not go wrong again

thanks

vince

i think your line of attack is

bearing in mind that most warranties dont cover clutches

trading standards view is the car should be of merchantable quality for 6 months,if you can show the car was sold with a known fault you can get your money back during thaose 6 months, ( eec law change 2 years ago)

You pointed out to the dealer the clutch was heavy, 2 weeks later its gone,

I would point this out to the OPC, then Porsche reading, then a solicitors letter,

Some OPC's are more efficient than others, I wont name names

My experience may help you..... my clutch started to fail within the first European trip on a 20k miles car

From my post in 2003...

Well done Porsche Guildford!

Its all fixed - Thank you Mark Blundell and Claus Andersen - bill to me £162.43!

Clutch is stiff and squeaks ( at the engine end of the car )when engine very hot in hot outside temperatures eg while touring Europe – suspect clutch release bearing? If clutch is removed a new one to be fitted if required. Difficult at all times to judge the exact point of clutch take-up as pedal is released causing jumpy changes.

Clutch release bearing and clutch plate replaced (engine out)

Drivers door very difficult to shut without opening window or by huge slam and door also rattles.

Adjusted and much better but slight wind noise from window

Window winder switch drivers’ side broken so I swapped with the drivers’ side switch for passenger window.

Switch replaced and now fine

Passenger window now does not open at all.

Fixed as above

Functions of roof and window have stopped operating with drivers door open but it worked fine until today.

Faulty door switch replaced -fixed

Roof rattle when fully closed – from front of roof on passenger side.

Better - dont know why

Tick-over uneven revs when air-conditioning running and also sounds of missing when at tickover – occasional slight backfire on start-up or overrun.

Plugs replaced at my cost while engine out for clutch replacement - much better but aircon still affects revs

Base of windscreen creaks.

Tape added to base of screen - cured

Car tickover now super smooth - clutch has made it a different car to drive.

=============================

Persistance was the key - plus the fact that they have their own Insurance against warranty claims - so it doesnt cost them much really to do the right thing for the customer.

I agree that any comment like "they are all like that" needs to be viewed as suspicious.
