I have been on this forum for just a few weeks and upon finding it thought this is it - a wealth of advice and was right. However, the more I want to buy the less excitement I have. I decided after saloon car driving for two years it's time for me to get what I want, what I really really want (spice girls I know). Problem I have is that prices are all over the place and not just the difference between trade and private.

I set my sights on a 98 coupe, 996, silver , black int and low miles ie less than 40/45000 miles. I have seen these low miler cars from 30 grand down to 24-26 k for cars with 60-70000k on the clock. However, in view of OPC warranty I decided a bit newer might be more sensible as I do not want a big bill (I still know I need money for the unexpected etc). Also, I do not want a 80000 mile car I cannot sell despite all the talk of 'they will always sell - condition not miles. Then I have dealers looking for 30-32k for a 2000 model with 65000 on the clock or similar for 99 cars with 50-55000 on them.

I am looking to spend 28/30 k on the newst I can get, with the mileage 45k - what do you think I should be expecting to get year wise as it has come to make or break time for me. anything with higher mileage will have 80-100 on the clock in 2-3 year which is why I want lower miles.

Thanks

Richard

Forget the 996 and buy a decent 993. A decision that you will not regret :)

Richard - I would think you should be able to get a 2000 C2 coupe with 45K miles on the clock for £30K - might not be an odd spec though.

I am pretty sure that Autobahn had a silver 2000 C2 for sale for around that - but it had Nephrite (Green) leather!

My 99 C2 in blue with sports chassis, roof, sports seats, 65k, FPSH, sound upgrade, GT3 alloys good nick was £25k on the nose. spent about 2K on tyres, brakes and the all important Porsche warrany and its great.

You will not regret a 996. Great to drive and a much better bet than a 993 unless your only getting one for weekend use. Dont listen to the scare mongering old bearded folk!!!

For that money buy a good 993 as previously stated you wont regret it and it will hold its resale value much better than a 996

p.s it also hammers a 996 in the looks dept outside with better build quality in the inside, imho of course

good luck

regards Walt 993 cab ( young dont have a beard and enjoy driving it every day)

Neither old or bearded, just speak the truth! Nothing wromg with a 996 but it is not as involving and satisfying as the 993.

Of course so many people have learned to drive cars that allow them to do things that are beyond their ability and therefore deride something they do not understand

All the 993 owners saying get a 993, all the 996 owners say 996, the arguement will rage on for eternity.

The only answer is buy the car that's best for YOU so get yourself out there and drive as many as you can before making a decision in what you like and find happiest with.

I went 996 C4s and am extremely happy with the decision i made, it was the right one for me.

Buy a Noble, thats the way I am now thinking as I would be hard pushed to justify a 996 due to lack of excitement!
