Chasing down cabin rattles

Hi all, just picked up an early 992 C4S, doesn’t seem as well screwed together as our previous 911 and there are at least two rattles in the cabin I’d like to get addressed.
Keen to hear if anyone has gone down this route, I’m wary of opening a potentially expensive, and open ended investigation, with no guarantee of results.
Options seem to be:
- OPC, most likely they would be familiar with common rattles as customers would have reported these on their new cars?
- local indie
- local (trusted) audio installer, I figure they must remove and replace trim all day long, plus could add dynamat etc

Any experiences appreciated,
Chris

There are several key areas where rattles are commonly from in the 992. Spend some time if you have not already to pin point these spots specific to your car.

Something like the 9XX audio files from this sight below played at different frequencies can really help speed the process up and fundamentally save you money if someone else has to find them on your pay cheque.

Key areas are door pull area, speaker area in door, switches in door area, glove box, and rear pillar area as well as seats.

Dont forget to also eliminate silly items like passenger seat belt touching vibrating on side of seat when not in use.

Good audio installers can ofcourse dynomate and improves things no end.

It all depends if the car has been pulled apart previously ( dashcam installs / immobilisers etc ) and if there are any clips missing or not pressed back into place correctly that can also really impact a cars potential for annoying squeaks and rattles.

Good luck.

Great post thanks - if those audio files work that would be very impressive!

Useful thread. Mines been into Guildford last week for an offside door pull / armrest buzz:rattle! It was a bit better but still buzzes at about 38mpg and while pulling away.

The drivers side seatbelt pull also had a continuous click that’s been resolved.

Car going back to have buzz noise fixed. I found you could stop it by pinching the armrest. Have a feeling it’s going to need a new door card as I can’t see any screws..

Guildford has promised me they won’t stop till the car is rattle free.
