Car prices?

The low mileage one could reach 6 digits. 2 owners and what looks like time capsule condition. Fairly easy to predict it will be bought and just put into storage.

Maybe I won’t bid on that one then. As you say it can’t really be driven which is sad

I’ve had to sign out of CC, I was about to put a bid on the low mileage GT3 and my wife talked some sense in to me, I’ve already got too many cars, my next purchase needs to be a unit or workshop.

I think the 996 has all the ingredients to flip perception about it.
It was the ugly duckling, it broke the rules and went water-cooled, it isn't trendy or cool, etc.
The 996 is the only water-cooled 911 that is fundamentally different looking and it was the first of the new era, it's unique in it's position.

All of that can be flipped by good PR and getting people to "Dare to be different" - which ironically then means many thousands of them all doing the same thing. A bit like the restomods on the FB pages now, they all look the same, a Rennsport backdated 3.2 looks just like a Paul Stephens one, etc.
It's getting a bit worn out now and certainly not unusual, every second car you see at an event is a backdated r-mod - black and white number plate optional.

The 996 is not from the same drawing board or design brief, it's also a very good drivers car, it's got unique lights, no one is spending six-figures on them, it's a commitment that in itself could become a trend because people love to demonstrate the commitment and passion to break out and be different. I think the 996 could be the breakout car to be different going forward, it's not the time right now, but once the economy starts on that upwards trajectory I think the 996 custom car could be the one to demonstrate that you're not one of the crowd.

If I were Singer then I'd stop and think where I was going, they got good rebuilding cars to be a bit more than they started out as, the newer stuff has gone too far now, they need to go back to their roots. Buy up some 996s and start putting them out there as the new different.
Ok, I’m new here so not trying to create a storm but hmmmmm….. tricky discussion re the 996; you say potato, I say “potato “, etc.
For “unique lights “ one could also say tasteless/ an aberration. For most folks I suspect that it does fall into the category of the ugly duckling, uncool and un-trendy but hey, I’ve neither driven one nor been in one and maybe a trip out might result in a more favourable viewpoint? If it is as you suggest a good driver’s car then perhaps there is a bright future for restomodding it? Who knows; we today saw a tricked Renault 4 and my younger daughter said “what a cool car!!”. Hope springs eternal and all that…

Different and previously unpopular is good, it means a good PR team can flip that.

This what I mean when people don't realise how much these cost to maintain - properly.

I've got the actual BOM for a load of parts for one of the jobs at MLR, they didn't put a margin on top and just passed the cost for everything on to me as it came from Porsche, they just charged me the labour and the BOM alone was five figures. Some parts are insane, I can't think of an actual example but it's stuff like a bolt at £12 and you need ten of them, or something. Porsche really know how to charge multiples of what the actual cost must be.

Bramley are selling a moderately refurbished 996 C4S for £70k!

It's a nice car, but it wasn't taken back to a bare shell, dipped, ecoated and treated to an RS rebuild, so I feel a bit more confident now, if this is a £70k car then my build is a £100k car.
Happy days.

It's already at £75k.

100% that's a high end dealer buying it, they'll put it away for a good few years (until the next boom) and then drag it out with a hammed up story about private collections and we can't divulge the very famous owner, etc.
I am going to go for a£82k plus fees

I'll stick to £93k + fees but I think it might make more providing the seller is forthcoming and prompt with answers to questions from potential buyers.

I didn't realise it was Atlas Grey ..such a nice colour. I thought that only came out for the 997 in 2005 , maybe a PTS !

I'm still going with my theory about dealers hoarding cars, there is zero benefit as a driver paying over the odds for the mileage on this car, and zero benefit to a dealer right now because unless he's sourcing it to order then it's probably going to not be worth more on their forecourt than it sells in this auction.

If a well known and very reputable dealer takes it, hides it away and drags it out in the next boom, with their cast iron warranty, then it's going to be potentially worth a lot of money. Look at the low mileage Hexagon 930 I keep mentioning, it's going nowhere yet, the market isn't ready for a car like that, but it will.
