well dropped off my C4 this am to my local OPC(no decent specialists up in Aberdeen) for a biggie service
........so keeping it hush-hush from the missus as she won't understand

been quoted approx £600 all in

how does this sound (pricewise)to the rest of you 993 owners????

Ah, but it's all the other bits they find when doing the £600 service! Oh, wait a mo' though, you've taken it to an OPC. Ok, that'll be just £600 then.

600 doesn't sound too bad for a biggie. is it a 48k on a 993?

technically its on 60-ish k(speedo change at 40k so showing 21k now) but as the last 2 services were just oil/filter changes the service manager reckoned going by its previous servicing record that its due a biggie,as the previous 2 were just minors........also i'm getting the hourly rate at a reduced £70p/h due to the age of car(only £10p/h dearer than my local VW dealer too)

thats not too bad then - i take it they will do plugs cos that in itself is a bummer of a job!

Wait till they find the oil leaks and the corroded brake discs and the dodgy wishbones and...

Hope it's not too painful, mate.

I think you'll find the £600 charge is for the cappucino and eyeing up the receptionist...

Everything else will be charged additionally.

Hope they don't find any nasty surprises.

£600 for a biggie!! Is that just the labour charge for the initial inspection?

The last time I had a biggie with JZ ending up spending £3.5k! (ok, that's including the solid shock mounts, but still..)

Hope it all goes well and you don't get torched!

not getting the car back til tomorrow............the wife is still non the wiser that its not in "our" garage but i got round it by telling her when she asked where my car was by telling her that it was in the garage (obviously missing out the "Porsche garage" bit  ).....hell if i can manage to hide a near £1k variable schrick manifold on my Corrado.....then a £600 service is a walk in the park

I can only think for £600 that the service will be the oil change (heard that OPC charge Mobil1 out at £11 + VAT per litre) with both oil filters, plugs, pollen filters and air filter + the usual check this check that malarky. Hopefully they'll also change the brake fluid, should be done every 2 yrs.

The big service is at 48k or 96k and includes all above plus brake fluid change, fuel filter, gearbox oil and belts.

I asked my local OPC (Solihull) what a 48k service would be out of interest, was told £1000.

Used a local indie and genuine Porsche parts, for all the above and also including new discs/pads/sensors front and rear, 2 dizzy caps/rotor arms, engine lid struts and an MOT cost me approx £1350 including the dreaded VAT.

Thankfully this year it looks like a nominal service/oil change.

John

i think the nearest decent indie is 150-ish miles away from me(tho a VW specialist that i trust is only 90-ish) so have to chance the OPC

AFAIK the brake fluid change is an extra to the service stuff the OPC are doing but my mech mate reckons he can handle that for a few beer tokens
