Bonnet button - not working on remote control - what to look at?

On my newly acquired 2006 997.1 the boot and bonnet release work perfectly on the interior sill buttons, but the bonnet does not open using either of the 2 remote controls supplied.
I have the 2 button remote control and the lock/unlock works fine and the remote flashes when pressing the bonnet release button. Sitting in the car I can also see the remote receiver flash (in the centre console - next to door unlock buttton) when pressing the bonnet release.

Google search has not helped here - would anyone else have any ideas?

Are you holding it down for a few seconds? As a single press doesn't pop the lid, you have to press and hold.
 
I feel a little foolish. Stood outside and kept my finger on the button as suggested. Worked perfectly.

Thank you for the assistance - I'm really not sure I would have figured that out any time soon!
 
That's what forums like this are for. No question is too simple / silly - trust me I have asked a few myself ;)
