Guys,

Im going to look at a 964 C4 cab (1990) the weekend, it has done a mere 50,000 miles - which is hopefully a good thing!

I just wondered if this would mean it is due for a major service soon? It has had a new clutch, and hopefully the DMF will have been changed. Is there anything else that I can check for when going through the service history/receipts?

It feels like I have been looking forever - a good 964 is hard to find!

Check out J Z Machtech's web site, they list their servicing prices. Happy hunting.

One of the main issues with 964s (particularly pre 1992) is a tendency to leak oil at the cylinder heads. Unfortunately the only cure for this is a top end rebuild and modifcation to head studs (ie lots of cash). That would be my first point of examination. There are lots of things to look out for (when were the brakes replaced/last wheel alingment/accident damage/electric problems/etc.), although clutch replacement is a bonus as long as the DMF has been replaced. It should have had a major service at 48k miles. Check out adrian crawford's website (www.performance2and4.co.uk) and john miles' www.porsche964.co.uk for more info.

The 964 can be a bit of a minefield as I'm sure you've found out, but a good one is worth the wait. Good luck.
