For a long time now, I've been very nervous that in years to come, we will be relying on today's spotty youth to pay their taxes for our pensions and to look after us when we're old, grey, incontinent.

My nervousness has now reached new heights.

I'd just bought my 911 (996) a couple of months ago and one of my staff (a 17 year old girl) was admiring the car. She asked what model Porsche it was and when I told her it was a "911", she said "That's disgusting - you'd fink that wiv the Twin Towers trouble and all that, Porsche could uv come up wiv a better name"

Here's to poverty and neglect in our old age!

I think that over the other side of the Pond they dial Nine-One-One in an emergency. So that's not too good either...

Yeah, thanks smtk! Just let me know where to send the fee for human resources consultancy! :D

Don't get me wrong, there are many things about 17 year old girls I like!

OK - I made a mistake - I interviewed her, but after being so impressed with her pair of GCSE's, I forgot to ask her about the number designations of the whole Porsche model line-up. She's a very healthy looking girl, but this did not reflect on my final decision.

I have reviewed company policy and in future, the 911 question will appear on all job application forms.

was it C's or D's for her GCSE's

jeez so many puns come to mine.

So what does your comapny do? (if i'm not being to nosey)

Your young colleague would no doubt be fascinated to know that the 9/11 tragedy and the connection with the car's name was noted by Porsche, hence they pushed the "Carrera" name more.

And anyway, better than the person who asked why my car had been named after an otter...

A while back when I had big 911uk.com logos on each door of the 993, a neighbour commented that it might be a good idea to change the name of the website because people will be confused in light of 9/11...

Nice one smtk (oooh, Matron!). You're right, we could fill a whole forum with puns now - we're on a roll! It's turning into "Carry on up the Carrera". I'm probably right in thinking she's achieved two C's, although they could be re-graded to D's by the time she's 21.

No, you're not being too nosey smtk - I own a couple of businesses - one of them is a Tourist Attraction and the young girl in question works for me there. Happily, she is still employed by me and is actually very good at what she does (no, stop it).

The fact is, Porsche have been very unlucky with the "911" name, what with the Twin Towers tragedy and the fact that "911" is the emergency services phone number in the U.S. (or was this phone number in operation before Porsche decided on "911")?

Of course, God forbid, if the tragedy had happened here in the UK, it would be referred to as 11/9 and not the odd way that the Americans quote their dates.

speaking of american phone numbers................wee bit of trivia here.........but in films/tv progs etc, when they show you "them" dialling a phone number its always *** 555 ***** etc..............as this doesn't exists so no one will get crank calls
