An arty vid ABOUT Singer

Interesting and they show the incredible attention to detail even on parts the owner is unlikely to ever see.

But they are extreme, I know a bloke who has a warehouse full of cars, his aim has been every model since a '70s 911S, he even has a 3.3 and a 3.6 964 Turbo because he wanted the complete collection, and he waited four years for his Singer to be built, that's some commitment to a build, four years is a long time, a lot can happen. I suppose if money is no object and you're just doing what you do anyway and forget about it, but I couldn't part with that sort of money and wait four years, I'm chomping at the bit because my build looks like taking 18 months now with scope creep.

That would be a collection to see, for most OCD requires effort to keep in check but OCD with no constraints on budget is open season.

Four years is standard for a full ground up rebuild, my 912 went in in November 2019 and was finished in November 2023, it was driving in, I think June of 2023 but it then had a lot of final detail work and road tuning etc which needed both cold and hot weather runs. It's a huge commitment and as you point out a lot can happen life wise in that time and for me did but chasing rainbows can be a legitimate hobby of its own.

The project part of it was as engaging as having the car in the garage, I had a concept and there were two initial meetings with the shop that built it, probably three months apart where we went through all the early decisions which were the outline / design principles for the car and shortly afterwards the car had become a stripped, blasted shell. From then on in I don't know how many phone calls and visits there were but every decision and little bit of progress was like Christmas. I remember one visit on a Friday to talk about door cards and I arrived at 1ish and by 5:30 we'd got to a decision on the door pockets. I do projects for a living and a great team is a privelage to work with, when it's for your own idiotic fantasy it's an utter joy. I love driving the car but I miss the project, a lot.

In reality your best case scenario is likely going to be 30 months, embrace the scope creep and enjoy the ride...
