Hi All.

Bit of history.

When I bought my '00 C2 the key fob didn't work. No problem, open the door via the key and pop the key in the ignition nice and quick. Bit of a pain but liveable.

After a few years of this decided to splash out on a new remote key fob - happiness and joy! Remote central locking working perfectly.

Maybe 18 months ago I started to get a double beep when I locked the car. Locking seemed to work fine, so put it on the 'to do' list and never got round to fixing anything.

a few months ago alarm starts going off in the middle of the night. no lights, so I actually thought it was someone else's car. This happens rarely every few months, annoying but no obvious cause. I check the codes and get a code:

34 - passenger compartment monitoring sensor

Happily thinking this was my issue I purchase a second hand dome light thingy. Numbers all match, fit the new part, still get a double beep when locking.

Clearly not the issue, decide to refit the original part to see if the codes come back.

Recently (last few weeks) the car has been going berserk whenever I unlock it with the fob - unlocks perfectly happily but sometimes the alarm will immediately go off, sometimes when I open the door, it will stop and start three of four times even when I've started the engine! Clearly the immobiliser if not stopping the car from starting.

Read the codes over the weekend and got a good selection:

1 - Door(s) secured and terminal 15 on
34 - Passenger compartment monitoring sensor
43 - Passenger side release stuck
49 - K Lead
61 - Central locking limit position Unlock not reached

Cleared these and old faithful (number 34) came back after a lock/unlock/double beep.

A lot of codes, wondered if this was caused by a low battery - checked and it's at 11.6V which is a little low so charged it up overnight last night and refitted this morning - and the alarm immediately goes off again!! Battery is pretty new.

I think that is pretty much the full experience.

Having read through all of this I might try refitting the replacement passenger sensor to see if it clears up my alarm issue. But other than that I'm a bit lost!

1, 43 and 61 suggest a micro switch issue in the passenger door latch - it thinks the door is still locked when it isn't. The door latches are shared with the Mk1 Audi TT and they're generally cheaper than ones pulled from 986/996.

As stated above - passenger door sounds like it's at fault.

So #34 is a red herring? It is the most consistent one!

Thanks for the tip on the TT handle, will get one ASAP.

I agree, I paid £195 to an Indy for the same Porsche item!!!

I might just buy one in case, make that 2, one for each side.

Yep bought a pair. I'm confused as to how this will resolve the alarm going off when I unlock the car though but for £50 it's worthwhile as a roll of the dice ..

It sorted my car out that had similar problems. I think the faulty door micro switches activate at night as temperatures cool and that triggers the alarm.

Also, any moisture getting in there causes the microswitches to give false open/close signals. I had an issue with the window drop microswitch on the passenger door handle and the window would constantly do the up/down/up/down manoeuvre.

I had this issue. For me, it was the alarm, siren / tilt sensor unit.

I went through the micro switches and all confirmed as working. In the end bought a second hand alarm unit and it’s all gone (touch wood - 2 years and counting).

As I said, in my particular case it was the alarm, it has a backup battery that has a lifespan and is not serviceable. Once it gets beyond its life, it double chirps to let you know it’s about to stop working. Then alarm goes full ballistic and you have to disconnect the battery to stop it.

It’s the easiest thing to replace, and cost £35 or so.

Interesting, is the alarm unit the bit under the bonnet? Might look in to this. My buddy is an electronic engineer so he might be able to have a poke around and find out if any components are lifed out...

The alarm unit is under the passenger seat. Easy to get access to, just undo the 2 front bolts out the seat rail and tilt the seat back. Then remove the cover off the alarm unit. Under the bonnet on the passenger side of the battery is the tilt sensor and siren. I've had a battery drain in the past which has been green funky oxidisation on the socket of the tilt sensor, so cleaned all the pins up and covered in Vaseline.

Tilt sensor (opaque white box full of fluid - don't drain that out, it's not full of water) & siren (big red nose):

Sorry, to be clear. I only changed the siren / tilt sensor unit (the second pic). That was enough to fix my issue.

Interesting guys thanks. Door bits have turned up so looking to fit these on Friday.

Been on a nice road trip in Scotland (just under 1000 miles covered) and in daily use the alarm hasn't misbehaved once - maybe pointing to a battery issue? However a couple of times the dome light has refused to turn off when the door was closed which does point to a microswitch issue... Either way I'm happy I'm replacing the locks (and the door membrane while I'm there.

Will have a good look at the alarm and the siren to see if there are anything obviously wrong.
