currently insure the merc through Direct line and they have quoted £1050 to insure a 997S value 65k, is this about right or does anyone know where I could possibly get a better deal :)

Dick, it’s difficult to comment as we don’t know:

§
how old you are,

§
where you live,

§
have you done any advanced training,

§
number of years NC
B
,

§
is the car garaged, etc, etc.

However, I think the best thing you can do is to ring around a few companies and see if Direct Line are pitching at the left or right of arc. Also worth comparing the additional benefits you get from each policy:

§
free hire car,

§
free legal aid,

§
size of excess? Etc, etc.

If you want to trim down the total costs then options are:

§
Limit mileage.

§
Increase excess.

§
Advanced training: IAM / ROSPA.

§
Get a wife (has an impact apparently)

§
Do a sedentary job: i.e. not a motoring journalist /
Red Arrows[/i:kjhCfSW7Ic] pilot.

§
And always close with the
“is that your best offer”[/i:kjhCfSW7Ic] line?

Hope this is of use.............that said,
I use Norwich Union and pay around £750 fully comp for mine – some 996/997 owners could give a more accurate read-out.

Always ring around. You may well be pleasantly surprised...

Dick, shop around big time. The spread of quotes I got on the GT3 was huge varying from £740 up to £2200, with excesses all over the place £200 up to £2000.

There's no way of prediciting who will be cheapest, companies people on here have recommended were way high, whereas where I've gone, others have found too high.

Defo. shop around. Also, join the Porsche Club; listed insurers have special schemes.

Bear in mind the quality of cover though- some insurers are a little slower and less willing to pay out than others...
