996 C4S Hartech 3.9 - A diary

Yeah it sounds like that's the one, I think it was at Oulton for the RS day recently.

I think the back story is it was written off and a C4S donor shell (the exact same shell as an RS and what I'm using) was used for the rebuild.

Bot yours is a 996 and that's a 997 ..right?

Have you had any issues with the Edinburgh ULEZ or did you have to register the car with them? I’ve been looking at both 996/997 and it seems like a bit of a lottery as to which ones come up as ULEZ complaint vs not. Obviously in Scotland this is a biggie as you can’t even opt to pay the charge to enter the zone.

Looking forwards to seeing who comes up with what for your engine!

The lads doing it reckon a lightweight 3.9L will be plenty and it probably will be. I don’t know if the perfect engine exists, I just know that the standard RS engine seemed like it wasn’t designed for a road car so I wanted something different with loads of torque and all the power low down, it’s hard work having to stay above 5k to make good progress.

Yes.
Same deal though apparently, they both share their respective shells with the C4S.

I’m sure I said this in my thread, I was going to buy a GT3 996 RS, but the thorn in my side about it was the engine, as fun as it was I knew I’d end up playing about with it to try and give it more low end shove and I’d probably not end up using its top end power very much. So a load of conversations later we decided to build a Carerra RS with a road biased engine built around a fat midrange power curve.

No issue for me.

All the C4S’s I looked at and checked went through as well. Both for London ULEZ and Scottish LEZ

That’s a small sample though, mainly 3.6’s and this being 3.9

Any commonality in the ‘fails’ or is it totally random?

underneath all the best Porsches are C4S’s……just a rumour I’m starting

Engine call sounds logical for low end grunt. I can endorse the Hartech 3.9 there

Not that I can see. I think it is possible to get a confirmation of emissions from Porsche and get the v5 updated in some cases.

I believe so. Hartech had updated the V5 on mine

Your 996 is looking sharp...... and to be honest i'd prefer it to the GT3 that's trying way too hard......... !!!
😊 Oh Sccchtaaaaap 😊

Thank you!

Two very different cars for two very different jobs eh. I think you would have to plan a detailed route around Edinburgh in the RS before you drove anywhere, but round a track or on a decently roaded euro trip it would surely be incredible.

Apples and pears.
My mate at work just bought a 992 C2S and he reckons it's brilliant around town, whereas a 992 RS would probably be a bit of a nightmare.

One looks like a sleek sports coupe and one looks like a transformer.

They go well though.

I was on the track in Dubai recently in my 997, right on the edge of the laws of physics, sliding all over the place and right on the raggedy edge, and a new GT3RS came past me and went around a bend like it was a cartoon, it was so fast it just didn't look real.

Harry, i've no doubts they are quick but i just think they look bloody awful....!!!
