That’s all you do in your 993 isn’t it?I’ve sat in one and pushed the buttons, does that count![]()

Aha, now you mention it, I’ve been driving it as my daily this weekThat’s all you do in your 993 isn’t it?![]()
Aha, now you mention it, I’ve been driving it as my daily this week……the 4S really comes into its own in the wet
…….the car just oozes what most modern cars are missing ……..
Love for your car is something 99% of people don’t get. I am with you but my love is for my Alpine and Alfas, I am done with Porsche! Piss takers on spares and more “perception” than actual quality, again just imo.My front scuttle is being sorted this winter. Yes it is the most common corrosion point on a 993, but there are few and its lasted >25 years. It may cost me a grand to sort shock horror…….I’ll spend more refurbing the big reds (you forgot to mention them), they are starting to suffer from plate lift, another well documented “issues” with 993 Turbo and C4S’s, again they are >25 years old and I welcome the excuse to get them refreshed, believe me I’m itching to spend money on the car but its hard to find ways to do it in any meaningful way ;-)
Keep going I can play this game all day![]()
True, I’ll ***** off from this thread now, apologies.I have no issue with that, they are just not for me. The subject of the thread was are 993’s worth the hype, to me they are and more, very few people need to feel the same as me to create a strong market which is exactly what has and will continue to happen. Bottom line is Porsche are one of the classic holy trinity sports cars with Ferrari and Lamborghini, it is that market they should be compared to not modern niche cars like an Alpina, totally different target audience.
I’ve driven the 993 a lot this week and absolutely loved it (in some shocking weather too), it’s currently in the shop having a pampering and I want to spend more on it this winter, I’m its custodian more than its owner and thats what I love about the ownership experience.
Just be grateful that you don’t have a Targa that needs an OEM driver’s side door seal - that’ll be £580 plus sir!Don’t go yet, I’m on commission![]()
This is such a coping defense mechanism - "my car has the PERFECT amount of power, why would anyone want any more???"
It's even been studied and recognised as a cognitive bias, it's called "Endowment Effect", and describes people overvalue things they already own.
I could understand if you were running 250 bhp/tonne as that (as long as it's not too peaky) is about as much power as you can use on the road before you are constantly over speed limits and driving too fast for typical roads.
But 300 bhp (actually probably significantly less at this age) in a 1,500 kg 911 - you're delusional and just trying to justify your purchase!
The fact that Porsche made some very popular models with significantly more power (GT3. Turbo, GT2), just underlines the point.

I agree, and it’s also the best air cooled car, from an engineering point of view.the 993 has always been the most expensive air cooled car outside of the early 911 cars
It should be £150k+.https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1996-porsche-911-993-turbo-24 - What do we think it will go for?
Smoke and mirrors. The sellers have been reading the hype and set a 'reserve' that nobody is willing to pay. In short, they've fallen into the classic 993 owners trap of over-valuingIt should be £150k+.
I watched a nice 993 C4S live auction last week, it reached £108k + fees and did not reach reserve. I think this one will have a much higher reserve so £150k may not be enough ?
Ps there is a nice manual 2S just gone up at Paul Stephen’s for £120k. I have always preferred the none rear wing widebody cars but this one is a lovely example of a mod done right I think.
No, that one had a rather “ bling “ setupSmoke and mirrors. The sellers have been reading the hype and set a 'reserve' that nobody is willing to pay. In short, they've fallen into the classic 993 owners trap of over-valuing
Didn't a certain garage operating out of a multi-story in West Yorkshire have one of these a while back. Same one?
