993 headlamp knob, it's illuminated!

Came across this via rennlist, but I'd always thought it strange that the headlamp knob never had illumination like the other knobs, ( fogs, heated window etc). I had a look in the Porsche PET at the knob and it didn't show a bulb in there...BUT THERE IS!

It's a regular 1.2 watt push fit bulb, and it comes on as soon as the ignition switch is on, so I guess it is the first bulb to burn out...very simple job to replace if your interested, gently remove the plastic part that has the headlamp symbol on it, called the legend in the parts catologue, the get some needle nose pliers with some duct tape round them (that helps grip the bulb) and gently pull it out. Simply push the new bulb in and replace the legend. Job Done! Just replaced mine took 3 minutes.

Just did mine last week :)
. I wish there was a way to get the cigar lighter to illuminate - but of course there isn't (where would it get the power?)

Thanks for sharing. That's been irritating me since I bought the car two years ago.

Why would you want it illuminated anyway, there's only one knob there, not exactly difficult to find?? :?
I think I'll just keep my knob in the dark! :P

This encouraged me to look at the headlight adjustment control, which also doesn't illuminate on my Targa. I eased the switch out and dismantled it to find a small bulb - may be an led - that is soldered in. The replacement part from Porsche entails a new switch, but I am on the case to replace just the bulb. This is probably the same as the light switch and is on alll the time. it's bit fiddly inside the switch, with a spring detent, but not difficult.
