Hi All,

I am due to purchase a 1996 (Vario-ram) 993 shortly. I have had the car inspected by a well known independant specialist near to the Reading area, as this is my first 911. The report showed some minor problems, but one comment was surprising. There is a small amount of corrosion around the front windscreen and rear screen. They told me that this would be repairable by a OPC under the corrosion lifetime warranty operated by Porsche.Does anyone have experience of corrosion around the screens? and if so did you approach a OPC and what results did you acheive? Please let me know.

Cheers, Rav

An OPC will only consider helping out if the service book has all the yearly inspection stamps in it. Also the corrosion warrenty is only for 10 years not lifetime so be careful as this car might have reached that limit.

I saw a 993 last weekend and it had some quite deep (ie. not just blistering paint) corrosion just below centre of the rear windscreen. never had anything like that on my old 3.2. Must be an indication that later cars not as rustproofed as earlier ones....?

the fault is quite common on 993's, the factory did not blow the paint in properly and then the seals are prone to letting water in, which sits between the glass and metal causing corrosion.
