Wanted 993 Big reds front and rear

For classified adverts, seeking cars, parts and products.
I've got as set of rear turbo brake callipers. DM me if that's of interest.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks Andy, but I actually only need the fronts, my title is wrong. Rears I will buy new RS calipers (unless someone somehow has the RS ones used for sale). I assume this is what you did as well given you are selling the rears only.

I'm intrigued if you are fitting them to a none Turbo / 4S ? ie they come as part of a totally different brake system, will the front calipers in isolation work on the normal 993 brake system ? ie usually people just paint the smaller normal calipers red ?

I am not using them in isolation....see above... just want the different sized pistons rears that the RS has.

Ha ha, no problem!

Yes, when I bought the car the previous owner had put turbo brakes on all round as part of an RS-style conversion. An easy mistake to make and on that surprisingly quite a few specialists I spoke to didn't seem to that the RS had different spec callipers. It was interesting to feel the difference once I made the change; I don't think I noticed too much change in normal road driving, but you notice the increased stability under very hard braking and particularly on track. Actual braking distances are probably the same, but it's more confidence inspiring for sure.

Worth noting that my car started life as a C4 so has a different brake servo setup than the C2, so seems to cope well with the increased rearward bias of the RS brakes. I've heard that RS callipers can be a problem on a C2 and it's wise to dial down the bias a little with less aggressive pads in the back.

Cheers,

Andy

did you take out the proportioning valve? (or valves with C4 I think) otherwise the difference between RS and Turbo should in theory be unnoticeable at threshold as the P/V takes over way before.

The RS is a c2 and does fine with that balance (and an LSD of course). the newer GT3s also have a similar balance. it is closer to ideal. I was discussing a custom kit with AP racing where they were willing to go even more rear bias confidently (but it got too expensive)

P/Vs are still there I assume. Maybe they aren't working 🤷‍♂️, as I certainly feel the difference under hard braking! It some point I'll probably swap out the servo for an RS one and make sure the rest of the system is RS-spec.

When you say the RS is a c2, my comments were more about the spec of the braking circuit and in terms of that the RS has a completely different braking circuit than the C2 and it's more similar to the C4 & Turbo. If that makes any sense? It's been quite some time since I went down that rabbit-hole so apologies that I don't have all the details to hand.

ah ya you are correct about the servos. I have an excel sheet somewhere I did with help from bill verberg that models out the differences for all of them. the difference between c2 with Rs calipers and RS with RS calipers ends up being minimal. what i shocking though is just how bad the brembo gt kit is. its far more front biased than even the normal blacks.

You guys seem to know what you're talking about - but if you want additional technical resource, Richard's web site (Jackal, who used to be very active on this forum - and is a legend of 911uk) upgraded his brakes. Read the story here:

He's a great writer - and a nice guy. Manages to impart deep knowledge without any 'look at me' boll0x one sometimes finds on forums.

will painting my standard c2 callipers red make me look a twat? best to stick with the plain black if doing a refurb?

Agreed.
Jackal's stuff is great; his adventures with the yellow 993 convinced me to take the plunge and buy one as his DIY guides were so helpful. However, Bill V is another level of anorak - so active and eager to help on Rennlist with masses of knowledge (and spreadsheets!), without coming across at all opinionated. Both legends.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that’s a statement and not a question :ROFLMAO:
