I’m just putting up for sale my 993 C2 Cabriolet. I love it but for some reason I think I should buy a 996. Am I mad, will I get just as much fun they look so sedate ?

Oh God the war on this is about to start again!!!! :D
There is a huge list of threads on here about this exact subject with both parties giving it their 'Full Berries' as it were. Do a search and you will find plenty of reading material to keep you awake at night. Are you going to stick to a cab?

I haven't driven either, but I'd stick with the 993 for looks alone 8)

i was in a similar predicament recently..................(although hadn't the benefit of already having a 993).............i went with going for the 993 due to less depreciation/rarity value........why are you selling your 993 cab if you don't mind me asking?

And those wheels Roddy dont forget those wheels. You have to say though Rodders you can see why you stuck with a 993 when you saw the car you now own. A cracker.

I'm in the 993 camp too for all the same reasons but thats not saying a 996 is not a fantastic car, either way you will still be getting the grin factor.

charlie i only bought those wheels from you purely for the boxes

and cheers for the compliment...............you sold that C2S of yours yet.....spotted it on the classified of the website yesterday.........if you haven't i think i know someone who might be keen on it

Have you driven the 996 yet? If you like it, go for it esp if you're going for the cab. IMHO the 996 cab looks much much nicer than prev 911 cabs. Pre 996 cabs they look a bit like a pram to be honest, sorry.

993 and 996 are very different cars, drive it first before you sell your 993.

Don't know whether it's my age, but I always preferred the 996. Worth reading the article in January's Total 911 though!

Having owned both I can honestly say that if you only used a 911 occasionaly or on weekends, it would probably have to be the 993, a much more honest in touch drive, you feel so much more of the car.

If you want to drive every day and have the normal modern comforts then it has to be a 996/997, not that far away to drive from a 993 but easy to live with every day.

A 993 can be tiring to drive all day when you are just poodling about or stuck in trffaic, unless its a tip.

My pennys worth.

I miss my 993, mostly for the feeling to drive, and if I am truly honest I think it is a better looking car than my 996 :o

Daz.

Since the 997 shape is almost the same as a 996 - not sure it has had a chance to age yet. I think we will have to wait to see what Porsche does next to really guage how the 996 will age.

Hi Neil

From someone who's done exactly what you're thinking of I agree with the dilemna. The 993 arguments about driving and residuals are spot on and Mrs Hendo does miss the cabriolet. I went 996 C4S coupe (I havent owned a coupe before) for the very reason you state above in that the standard 996 body shape really didnt melt my mozzarella, but the turbo body shape does it in spades (something that works in just about every 911 variant IMHO).

Even though mine is a weekend car, you very quickly get used to the vastly improved creature comforts of the 996, and I'd be hard pushed to go back again.
