986 basic stereo system

Hi,

Can anyone advise on the basic stereo speaker wiring on the 986 - is it just wires between the head unit and 4 speakers (2 dash / 2 rear)?

Looking at options to fit a single DIN in a 996 which currently has PCM2 / amp / CD changer and MOST fibre optic connections.

I’m thinking Continental DAB wired directly to the 4 speakers (dash / rear side panel) and abandon everything else incl door woofers!

Cheers
Ian

you need to see if you car has MOST, unless you fit the complete 996 system

the Continental DAB is a much better option, dont forget the door insulation

My 996 definitely has the MOST system and am exploring options. It has the amp and CD changer in the frunk.

My logic for posting here is that there would be more base spec cars Boxsters of the era.

I had a continental on my 996 and had an iso connector from one of the main ICE companies and it had interference. There is a guy in Norway who sells the Continental head units and his own modified iso connectors. I have a thread on here about it somewhere if you are interested.
When I changed the head unit to a double din on my 986, I paid someone to do it as the car play unit was a bit more involved.
It’s worth changing the speakers in the dash as well. The Alpine units most commonly used were in short supply and I bought a different set of, I think, Rockfords. Details in my 986 running thread in this forum.

Would you be able to post a link?

I’ve already changed 4 of the 6 speakers - 2 dash and 2 rear side panel with Alpines and the ebay adaptor kits. Not done the door woofers though these might get abandoned if I wire the speakers direct!

I did spot on one of the vendors websites that they recommended an additional installation item for noise suppression.

Here you go. Good luck!
