928 GTS project

Seems like a decent runner. I don't know why but I have the impression that most 928s are now stranded projects.

I've only seen one in recent years, and that was at the summer festival (and entered into the concours... didn't win though).

To get at the wiring at the rear of the stereo, remove two screws amd a nut.

Could be worse :)

This is the one being removed.

A few photos of the connectors and an interface box.

I understand how it works now, just need a new antenna connector then it can go back together. This is the inside of the interface box.

They're a rare sight but several of the guys in our local (Midlands, UK) TIPEC group are running 928s and seem to drive them regularly, if only for 3 seasons.

New unit in.

That Sony head unit you removed will have been the original UK Porsche fit ie if as per the 993 it will have been delivered for PDI without a radio fitted and Porsche UK will have fitted that as standard ie worth keeping hold of it with the car even if not fitted

^Nice one T8!

Older Porsches are a bit thin on the ground around here ... even if there were half a dozen 356s at the festival.

We have such a small population (5.5m), almost exactly the same as Scotland, but with less whisky.

This is one of the larger rear speakers after removal. Foam is all gone.

Clean it up and remove the ridge around the surface. The new surround is larger and interferes with it.

Superglue to the cone, with a suitable weight to hold it in place.

1 down, 1 to go.

Second speaker done.

Off to Yorkshire tomorrow for a drive, so it needs to be back together by lunchtime or no HMHB for me.

To be fair you should really be listening to their cassettes

I've got a 4AD3DCD.

But more on MP3 or LP these days.

All back together and working, the sound is massively improved, but still not great, so the other 4 mid size speakers will be done next I think.

Here is a short video on the refoaming process.

Some more actual driving.

On the tight twisty roads it did feel big, but on the more flowing roads it really comes alive. Good comments from the Yaris and Audi owner about how it looked when following it, great road presence. It is superb on motorways. Right up there with the Range Rover and 560 SEC for mile munching.

They are one of those cars that where never replaced / updated and so will always have their own prescence about them.......that arse still looks good :thumb:

Old bonnet light was corroded, didn't work and was missing the cover. New one is better.
