Xcar Tribute of the Porsche 959 Supercar

Only 337 units of the fantastic Porsche 959 were ever built, and the lucky chaps from XCAR had the distinct pleasure of not only checking one out from up close, but also driving it and filming it for their YouTube show.

The resulting review will probably make even a millennial fall in love with the 1980's supercar, as the 959 could probably do that with its simple presence in a video filmed with a potato.

Thankfully, XCAR had some full HD potatoes with them, as they had all the right words to say about this red beauty from Zuffenhausen.

Powered by a sequentially-turbocharged 2.8-liter flat-six that was borrowed from the famous Porsche 935 'Moby Dick", the 959 was at a time the fastest production car on the planet, with that title eventually being stolen by another Porsche, only this time made by Ruf (CTR Yellow Bird, anyone?).

With 444 hp in 'standard" and 530 hp thanks to an optional performance upgrade, the 959 could hit 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standing start in just 3.7 seconds, after which it could hit up to 317 km/h (197 mph) when talking about the 'Sport" model.

These numbers were also possible thanks to a highly-innovative all-wheel drive system called PSK (Porsche-Steuer Kupplung), which was able to shift up to 80 percent of the power to the rear wheels, while also making the 959 the world's first all-weather supercar. You don't want to miss the following footage.
