Just looking for some advice.....would love to get either one in manual C2 form....

If i dont get one soon, i dont think i will ever get one with the way the prices are going.

Personal choice chum depends on you. Trawl the boards and make your own mind up.

I had a 993 first and now 964. Its all in the shape and driving style for me

But you're right 964 C2 are selling in hours of being advertised, or before they get listed when someone gets a sniff its for sale

993/964 are out there you need to justify (a) the high prices 964 are selling over 993 and (b) dont hang about when you find one. :thumb:

Also 993 are price sensitive at high miles, but the engines are bullet proof so if the overall conditioin is good despite what the odometer says dont pass it up.

Was chasing the midnight blue 964 that was up, but was too slow.

Seen a 1996 993 C2s manual at a specialist, it was not for sale but maybe having a service...the guy at the garage said the owner just paid 50k for it.

Will they still keep going up in value?......if so,your money is better with on one of these than leaving it in the bank.

That sound possible for an 'S' if it had ultra low mileage and you really want one.

Some will if rarity value with the 'mainstream' following in the wake.

Personally I think we're riding on the 50th celebrations plus the fact everyone seems to now want a 964 which must be at the top of the curve with % increases outstripping 993 which always have a strong market.

Is it a bubble? Who knows. Who cares. I've never looked on a car as an investment but this air cooled malarky allows you to run a car for several years with the almost certain guarantee of getting at least your money back if you sell  Remember though a 'catastrophic issue' can run into five figures if you're unlucky.

Sound advice there :thumb:

964 v 993, very very different cars

Might be worth seeing what you budget is to decide what the next step is?

and if you're looking to get a car and go or looking for a project ?

The 993 had 64k and looked in great shape.

I have my eye on a nice k plate black 964 with 80k.

Gonna try to make contact soon with the owner, its had a respray and looks lovely.....cream trim though which i dont like....could easily change to black though!

Dont think the owner would sell as its a very nice one.

The 993 on ph looks nice but the price is a little high for me personally....doesnt mean to say it aint worth it though.

It will prob be sold soon.

Would like to get as nice a one as possible as it would only be going out on sundays to go to church, then the shop to get the sunday sport, then the butchers for some serious meat.

The resto costs on porsches scare me right off getting a project.

K Plate 964 C2 in black with linen @ 80k miles. If its stacks up condition wise, good respray, engine solid/rebuilt you'll be looking at £25k+ I reckon.

When I started looking I passed on a few in the low teens that needed work. BIG mistake. I could have put £10k into one and easily got my money back. Then the market went haywire :frustrated:

If running costs are a factor, then a 993 will likely be easier on the wallet than a 964. I'd love a 964, but preferably one where the previous owner has recently spent an absolute fortune having all of the rust sorted out. I believe they 'go' in places that the 993 has yet to succumb to (though by all accounts the bumper irons don't rot like they do on the 993, so one should be grateful for small mercies :) ).

However, with either model in the garage, happiness is guaranteed :thumb:

This has potential:

PORSCHE 911 (993) CARRERA 4 COUPE 1995 (1995)
For sale Privately, in Surrey
£25,950

Might be a little movement on price to sort the paint. £25k seems entry level plus this has later varioram engine

I am defo thinking between £25 & £30k.

It sounded awesome and the paint was proper nice and fresh...think it cost 5k for the paint some 5 yrs ago.

It looks like most of my cars....barely used and lives in a garage.

It would be a nice thing for me to get one as i have a big storage facilty and it would prob not even see 1k a year....it would be a once a month toy for me....although that would change when i drive it i'm sure

I gotta see if the owner of the black 964 would sell, i just wont be satisfied until i know.

As Tim says both can be wallet busting if bought wrong

As I own both over for nearly 3 years
here is how I see it

993/ 97 (8yrs)
No rust ,suspension is more critical as its more complex , very fewer oil leaks happen,it is more an all round car than a 964 ,great touring car and and very capable on a track just feels a bit more weighty and better put together on the move ,you can leave a 993 for months it will start first time and never let you down

Note early 993 pre vario-ram my suffer from valve guide wear

964/90 (3 years) and my 2nd one
The rear quarters much more prone to rust as are the sills , engine rebuilds are not as common as you think ,yes they dribble a little oil but if they dont smoke on start up and on the move then the oil leaks are manageable over time but plenty of other annoying issues to get put right
964s hate not being used and will punish you with poor starting and hesitation issues
That said 964s are agile and very go-kart like to drive, not so good if you are doing a 300 mile journey in one

My 64 in the last two years has cost a lot of money replacing fuel and electrical parts and other failing parts but now starts first time every time and goes like stink

The spend over a three year period on a 964 has been far more than the spend on the 993 for a five year period

964s have rocketed in price but only the sorted ones and C2 are getting rare, they are more of a money pit than a 993 and the owners of 964 will have had to spend more on them to start with

Both are fantastic and rewarding in different ways

If I had to choose one to keep the 993 wins

8)

Thanks for all the advice.

Maybe the 993 is the one for me then as it will be in my garage on trickle charge for long periods.

I do like a nice 964 though...

Im worse than a woman buying shoes when it comes to cars.
