Pip - I thought it would be easier to manage with a new thread. Here's the overview for interested parties:

Learn the secrets of over limit handling using your car and our Caterham 7.

A 5.5 hour experience for 4 owners covering the building blocks of vehicle control at grip limit.

A fast moving sideways experience. Designed to build on the skills learnt on the Performance and Cornering Masterclass club days or as an introduction to the techniques of over grip limit driving for the novice, our instructors will tailor the training to your level of experience.

Understand and practice the building blocks of over grip limit driving. It is not just nailing the accelerator and relying on instinct. A drift is the culmination of many core skills polarized into one extreme exercise. All explained and demonstrated by your instructor and practiced by you.

Enjoy the challenge of our very sideways Caterham, and experience the dynamic characteristics and capability of your own car as it realises its true potential at grip limit. Invaluable information for those owners wanting to maximise its potential and enjoyment of their car on track.

Your training session will include presentations on:
Understeer
Oversteer
Lift Off Oversteer
Roll Oversteer
Weight Transfer at Turn In
Tyre Grip Trade Off
Identifying Grip Limit
Breaking Traction

Your training will include an experience of a wetted as well as a dry surface on the Steering Pad/Mile Straight Apron at the Millbrook Proving Ground.

There will also be a bottle of Champagne for the best Drifting God on the day.

Members Price £390 per person

Please note:
Caterham 7 Specific: Minimum/maximum height 5 ft 0/6 ft 4 Maximum weight of 18 stone

Did a similar thing a little while back with a few member from here at Rockingham and it was great fun and worth doing if you've never done one before.

As the current holder of the Clarkey's Knob silver trophy I fancy that bottle of champagne trouble is the date conflicts with my return for Spa.

Interested in a further date Thumb

I shan't ask about the trophy Laughing

There's a possible group on Sunday 20th April (Easter Sunday). If that's of interest drop me a PM.

Having done this course on Sunday, here's what we got up to:

Most of the day was spent on the steering pad which is a big concrete square they use to work on under and over steer. We spent a short time before the morning and afternoon sessions in the CAT hospitality centre where Colin went through the engineering theory of what we were going to experience. In the morning we used their caterhams to learn and practice the basics of oversteer, reactive correction for the slide and drifting.

After a nice lunch we then used our own 964s to do slip angle mapping and experience the limits of the car in cornering. This essentially used the approach road to build up speed so that we would enter the steering pad at about 70 mph for a medium 180 degree corner designed to experience trail braking in, balancing the throttle to the apex and then the power phase to the exit. This let us experience the limits of the cars in the dry, how to reduce understeer and how to correct for oversteer. The steering pad was then wetted and we did low speed drifting round the centre of the circle and then moved on to higher speed power oversteer. The latter used the approach road again so that we entered the, now wet, steering pad at a good lick. This was the most fun because it involved trail braking to the apex, then lifting off while there was still some steering lock on to hang out the tail and then use power and steering to drift the car out to the exit. And of course spin every once in a while!

Thanks to Jo an Colin for an eye opening and enjoyable day. Thumb

p.s. I was knackered by the end of the day. Grin
