Front ducts. Genuine close to £300. Copies via eBay £100.

Why are the genuine items superior? Assuming I get the paint done properly are the cheaper versions going to look poor?

eBay all the way plus a professional paint job :thumb: Or I dare say given your car is black you could do a good job DIY.

Does the OEM kit come with the ducting to direct air where it is supposed to go :dont know:

I have the genuine ones but with LED light units instead of normal bulbs.

The copies look identical but I have not tried them so the only concern would be fit but as there is plenty of tolerance there is no reason why they should not be a good fit.

The OEM ones come ready primed so save you some prep time / money but not enough to justify £200 difference.

I would have tried these had I known about them

Ps the LED light units look much better and can be used as DRL's. I have seen them advertised on ebay separately for I think c£35 for a pair. The fit is very tight though so important you get the right ones.

There is another option if your just looking to replace the crap looking OEM fog light units = the original Audi RS fog lights from the same era. Apparently it shared the porsche 993 bumper apertures so it could use the 993's indicator units but it's fog light units look much better and should be a straight fit ? I've never seen them on a 993 though :dont know:

As above, mine are OEM with LED units. Just to add a bit of info re the primer - mine did indeed come pre-primed, but the finish was rubbish so my paint guy had to do a fair bit of corrective work. Certainly didn't save much / any time.

They do fit well, though. :)

Once painted you won't be able to tell the difference between oem or these, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Porsc...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d12d86bbd,

If you have some skills at spraying then save yourself some money and get the appropriate paint mixed in an aerosol form from a specialised supplier, use a good primer and laquer, flat it with wet and dry between coats and use a tack cloth when appropriate then you will be able to obtain a finish that will be unnoticable from a job done in a booth.

I have some, as per the above link, that I swap out with the original fogs when I feel the need for a change.
I obtained a mixed aerosol in the correct colour code from the company that supply my local Porsche Approved Body Shop and painted them myself.

Ignore the fact that they are not straight in the pic as I had not screwed them in.

Ah didn't realise you meant the ones with fog lights in. £100 is a bargain  Pity I cant get non OEM for my 964 as its a far cheaper prospect than buying new fog light units :nooo:

I was wondering about the cost of painting. Appreciating the skill levels here, do you fancy taking some painting on Dom? I'll send the parts to you and pay you for the time/paint/ labour etc

My painting skills end with colouring books.

John, were these the ones you were thinking of?

Based on Mk3 Golf VR6 Fog and shorter duct. I like them but the price is even higher than the round fog units.

Re: the Ebay ones, I had a chat (email) with the guys and they come with no connections for the lights so spade connectors etc are the way to go, to attach to the little LED units.

They don't look crap at all if you bite the bullet and buy new ones.

They are the Techart type items, like these which cost quite a bit;

Audi RS2 shared the same fog lamp unit as the 993, I wasn't aware of any other option from an Audi that will fit :dont know:

Was not a case of biting the bullet. I had hoped new lights would look much better but having seen a couple of cars with all new units all round at shows this summer the one light unit which still did not look right was the front fog lights. Contrast this with new rear light sets which transform the cars :thumb:

I would be happy to help foc but factoring in the addition of postage costs and considering the chances of damage in transit it may be a safer and not much more of an expense to get them done at a body shop.

I seem to recall that I paid around £30 for paint and consumables.

Stabbing in the dark, I would think that you may find an independant paint sprayer that would be willing to do it for a bit of cash, maybe £100 :dont know:

If you are not too far from Wimborne then you are welcome to bring them round and I will help you do it :thumb:

The RS2 kit I remember was an aftermarket kit advertised on german ebay a couple of months ago. It had a much neater interior behind the lens than the OEM 993 unit.

A few questions

1. Are the bulbs HID or standard?

2. Are these all MOT friendly? If I'm looking at this right it deletes the front fogs

thks
