2010 Porsche 997 Turbo

PostPosted: Mon Nov 10, 2014 12:09 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Hey Paul,

Looking great but...

Why did John keep the headlights in and not remove them? Seems like it would have been just as easy to remove them to get the best finish.

Good point Joe. Thumb

If you look at the photos of the masked headlights you will see there is hardly any overspray on the masked area, this is because of 2 reasons:

This in not a full respray but a blending of the painted area from the sills upover which was how John wanted to do it, mainly to avoid any unsightly seams around the sills and shark fins.

The second reason is, John is a wizard with a spray gun, he could spray a pin head without masking it up Grin

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Guys,

Update: I have been pondering for a long while what I should do about seats for my car when we do the retrim. I didn't want to take too far away from original parts and it's not an RS or even an RS-alike so I decided against Pole Positions and stick to my plans for a 964 Classic (think 991 Classic).

I love the original Recaros but with the engine and other upgrades I've done I thought the extra support from the sport version of the original Recaros would be perfect. I know these seats are a fraction heavier than my current ones but neither is it a track car and I've already taken some weight out in other areas like the large washer bottle, exhaust, engine parts, fog lights, wheels etc. And with around 350bhp on tap it's not as if it's a problem.

So here are the new classic sports seats courtesy of RS Cars Ltd., Bedfordshire (Richard Shrive Cars) www.richard-shrive-cars.co.uk (who I must say have been brilliant to deal with) and will be recovered as planned in red, in the classic style with woven leather in the cushions and smooth leather on the bolsters and the backs a la Singer.

Cheers for now,
Paul

Most would go the re-dye route but you're going the full hog to get the right leather weave etc Thumb

I've got a spare set of those Recaro seats so looking forward to see what they come out like Wink

The sports seats are excellent, changing to pole positions or the like are fine if you are a trackday animal or trying to save weight . everyday use and the odd trackday the sports seats are just the job and really comfortable for the trip down to lemans , could never understand how the turbo never came with them as standard being the flagship model.

looking forward to progress as usual.

Hi Chris,

They do look in pretty good nick, I haven't seen them in the flesh and they're being sent straight to John. At leat the bolsters won't need re-padding though.

That's what I thought Thumb

That's a good point Zingers old bean but you can't beat the smell of new leather Grin

I'll keep you informed of the progress mate.

Thanks Gaz Thumb

I always thought the Turbo came with sports seats as standard. I know my 3.2 Carrera SE came with them included in the Sport Pack. Question

I'm with you, I think they are a great looking seat, they just look right for the car. I even love the standard seats but I thought that since it's now a bit of an animal I'll go full sport.

Some more progress for you then Grin

Soon she will be all shiney again. The sills will be probed soon for rust prevention, the exterior parts have already been done.

Carpets being laid out ready to trim and fit. Chis if you're reading this I'm leaving the linen carpet parts on the door pockets until I trim them in leather. There's no point in fitting the new black pocket covers only to pull them off and fit the smooth leather later. So I'll get them to you in a couple of months if that's ok?

I will have a couple of brand new black door pocket covers spare (the correct carpet from Southbound, trimmed in black leather) free to a good home if anyone is in desperate need for their own car? PM me if required.

Cheers,
Paul

No probs at all Paul, i'll just grab them whenever they're ready Smile

The non-sports seats on the Turbo is a funny one. My mate with the RUF tuned 930 only has standard seats in his.

Epic worship going to have to see this when it's done Paul.
Just out of interest Paul, do you still have the other Porsches listed at the bottom of your profile?

Hi Ian,

I wish, particularly the 924 Turbo and the SC. The dates of custodianship are on the sig too.

I always have looked after my own cars and was a bit OCD and thought detailing was a waste of money, but I would now regard it as essential. It's a dark art well worth learning Thumb

Cheers,

Hi Chaps,

The plan for the gear-stick. A pal from the US on RL is sending me this, stainless tube and a perfect fit:

This Carrera 4 belongs to my afore-mentioned pal and you can see how it's going to look.

All I need to do now is work out how to make a tray to sit around the exposed boot.

Later,
Paul Grin
