Hi Peter,

The alloy one in the recent photos? That's Rob's car, it looks like a Wevo to me but I'm sure Fuch will put us right?

Cheers,
Paul

Hi guys,

Are you ready for a picture heavy update? I may as well post them all as I've nothing else to do nooo

While the car has been in getting PDR'd from a couple of dints caused by a low-flying grannie, I brought forward a job which I was going to have done over the winter. The removal of the sill and repair of blistering in a few places, it was a case of while yer in there doc Nurse

When I bought her a few years ago I had some minor blemishes on the arches (and scuttle, windscreen surround) repaired but John thought we may as well make sure all the sides match up correctly as he didn't do it the first time around. So the plan is to rub down and and re-lacquer the sides, sills & covers. The sill covers will be treated to new fittings and seals before replacement.

It means I'm not getting the chance to drive her over the last few days of a beautiful autumn but it's a job well done before we sort the interior.

To be fair, John says she is in really good condition and we're nit-picking to find jobs but there's no point in letting things develop, we may as well stop them now. We will also take rust preventative measures where appropriate to make everything last as long as possible.

So much for all the detailing Chris spent days on, ho hum frustrated Ouch!

Cheers,
Paul

I am not sure i will ever understand paint etc. So you will re lacquer/re clear coat but will not paint all the sides with new black - just the repaired bits? and the paint underneath will look new again? Brilliant!

Hi Joe,

There will be a final coat of black then the clear coat. John had already done the rest of the car, doors etc., except the bonnet which doesn't need doing.

Yes indeed, he's totally trustworthy and he knows what I expect and what I want, which just so happens to be the same as him....perfection ha! I couldn't really argue when he said he was doing it. John has prepared so many different concours winners that you simply just let him get on with it.

I had actually planned to have the sills off over the winter so no probs really. You'll enjoy it all the more when it's all done mate Grin

I know Chief but it's one of those nagging things that I've been putting off. I knew it wasn't a pressing problem coz we'd had the sills off a few years ago but it was time to address the issues. Actually the car is a credit to the previous owners and I'm sure they would be pleased knowing it's being well cared for, erm, like a spoiled little girl Grin

On hot bricks too Ian Grin

Anyway here's a few off topic pics of just a few of the cars in John's at the moment. If I there were a few interested people we could organise a night out / weekend morning or afternoon looking at stuff in his workshop sometime. He's a fountain of knowledge and loves to talk to all enthusiasts. Maybe a cars and coffee thing!

Choose your's,
Paul Thumb

Your car will be "finished" Paul after this round of painting interior etc its setting the bar high for the rest of us cant wait to see the end result.

I love workshops like this is that a P1800 under resto ? really fancy doing a rodded one of these meant to be tricky for bodywork with a lot of double skins. Quiet partial to e-types as well

Hi All,

My custom ebony Singer style shift knob arrived today and I"m delighted with it, so here are the photos as promised Smile

This photo taken with an iPhone lens, makes the shaft of the knob appear flared like a Champagne cork, which of course it isn't. The gear pattern insert is very good and it does the job perfectly. The knob is very tactile and warm to touch, it's a beautiful thing.Thumbs Up

The weight of the knob without an insert is (he forgot to enclose it) is 2 oz. or 60 gms. approx. It has a quality feel to it

By comparison here, both the Dansk knob and my custom one together, roughly the same size but a chunkier look.

The weight of the Dansk knob is less than 1.5 oz or 40 gms. approx.

Now to get measured up for the shaft.

Cheers,
Paul
