Although we think discovering any old rusty vehicle that has spent several decades idle is a lucky score, tracking down a Pre-A Porsche 356 Cabriolet goes a bit beyond the "average barn find".

Whoever stumbled upon this 1953 Porsche 356 1500 Super Cabriolet interrupted the long term slumber of an extremely rare car. As the listing points out, this car is one of only 394 built in 1953 and is one of even less cars that left the factory with the optional 70 horsepower 1500cc Super engine (1500S).

I found this car in a barn. It was in a real sorry state so I offered the chap $500 to take it away.

I googled it and found out a little more about the car and I paid a further $50 to my local Porsche Centre for a Certificate of Authenticity (something they will gladly do for any Porsche vehicle).

I then placed it on ebay on a sold-as-seen basis and got over 80 thousand bucks for it !!

God knows how much the chap that bought it will now need to spend on it ?!

What an amazing find!

Now, aside from how much this will cost to restore, how much of the actual car will have to be replaced with either rare old 'new' parts or remanufactured bits as and when Porsche gets round to them? I'm guessing this will be a £100k+ job ???

If one had the money, I guess this would be a perfect car to send to Porsche Classic in Germany to be lovingly re-made where they have access to all the original drawings and technical data etc.

Canepa Design in California have 4 of them in stock.

They also have a delivery mileage 959. Although they are asking $1m for it!

:?
How will it be sold when restored

One owner original car with matching numbers...sort of
