Wet door carpets

Last year I noticed the carpet on the bottom of both doors on my 997 cab were soaking wet after a rainstorm, I took it to a independant porsche specialist who told me it was a common problem, and said silicone sealant was the answer and it was for 6 months but now it is happening again, has this happened to anybody else.[/img]

Very common problem (especially if the car lives outside or is used in the rain, road debris gets washed down the drain holes and blocks them, then the next time it rains the drain holes overflow and water gets in the car).

Rod your drain holes (or rather, get OPC to)

Door membranes:

Not a 996 or 997, but this is basically what the membrane is/does:

Do this when any debris may be soft and moist (ie after extended rain, or at a pinch after a decent washing drench).

Use an airline to blow clear, or old springy type plastic coated curtain "rod" (net-curtain wire) - you want it firm enough to push, but flexible enough to go round radii and not puncture the drain tubes with sharp edges:

(remove the hook or eyes!!)

GT4..

How do you gain access to top of rear drain channel and tube,is it under the roof cover..?

According to Porsche, access is from the bottom (unless you have a sunroof).

Drain tubes cabrio

Hi GT4 Do you know how to access drain tubes on 996 Cabrio With soft top half way down can't see them.

Only what is on the diagrams.

You may have easier access via the lower exits rather than top side.

They are there. Just gently pour a jug of water with your roof half up and you will see where it flows too.

It then goes into a collector not far from your rear speakers, and from there will either overflow onto your carpet or drain behind the wheel arch, depending on whether your drain is blocked or not.

It'll be the lower part that is blocked.

Just to clarify, the positions of some of the drain holes are behind the wheel arch liner.

This is illustrated in the diagrams and the photo of the wheel arch (!) earlier in the thread.

The exits you need to clear look like grommets.

Having read (mainly) your excellent pointers on this issue, I have to clear my roof drains - presumably the ones that drain in to the rear arches?

As per: http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=72957

I am guessing that I need to take off teh whole arch liner on side that is wet and clear the drain 'grommet' as per your piccy? HAve never done this before - something that Porsche Assist or AA would help with?

Or stick it in to OPC and ask them?

Bit of a two left thumbs chap wrt my car :)

Thanks in advance
