Porsche has revealed its latest version of the mighty Cayenne GTS ahead of its official début in Beijing later this month.

Visually, the GTS now wears the hood and front fascia from the Cayenne Turbo, Bi-Xenon headlights, wide side skirts and wheel arches and a roof spoiler with fixed bi-plane wing profile, while the window surrounds and trim are finished in high-gloss black paintwork. Other defining features include 20-inch RS Spyder wheels and matte black tailpipes. Two new colours, Peridot Metallic and Carmine Red, have been made available for the GTS.

Moving inside, the cabin is upholstered in a mixture of leather and Alcantara, with standard equipment including eight-way adjustable sports seats and a SportDesign steering wheel with flappy paddle gear changers operating that eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission.

Power comes courtesy of a reworked 4.8-litre V8 engine, which develops 420 hp, 20 hp up on its predecessor, allowing a 0-62 mph time of just 5.7 seconds, 0-100mph in 13.3 s and a top speed of 162 mph. An auto start/stop function helps the GTS to consume a respectable 26.4 mpg.

Due to hit European showroom this July, prices will start at £67k

I'm sure it's an amazing machine, but I find it difficult to get excited by something like this.

Now, a stripped out RS style / "Dakar" rally version (for the road) would be really interesting...

If you like Cayenne, the more you like the Cayenne GTS. The point of the GTS is for PAG to be in the news and for the buyer to get a good value package. Which in addition holds its value better over the time thanks to the magic letters and some bling-bling. Everything great except that this 4x4 sits an inch closer to the ground than the S. Yes, really. So expect the 991 GT3 to be launched with an inch higher suspension than a 991 Carrera. This happens when head of marketing has bigger vote than the head of engineering and when you are more passionate about the money than what you do.
Can't help to mention the Sport Chrono pack. That's completely useless already in sports cars (because not GPS-connected and badly located on dashboard), but what would you be doing with it in a Cayenne? It seems that having Sport Chrono on dash is a new secret sign of low IQ (you buy something without understanding what it does).
