Porsche has announced the 100,000th second generation Porsche Cayenne has rolled off the production line in Leipzig on Friday.
The production milestone also marks the Leipzig plant's 10 year anniversary.
"Ten years ago the success story of Porsche Leipzig started. What was a greenfield site, today ranks among the most modern car plants in the world. In addition to the Cayenne, Leipzig is also where Porsche produces the very successful Panamera luxury saloon, approximately 70,000 units of which have now rolled off the production line.
That is why more than 93,800 vehicles left the Porsche plant in Leipzig in 2011, more than in any year before", says Wolfgang Leimgruber, Member of the Executive Board of Production and Logistics of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG.
Due to high demand for the Cayenne and Panamera a third work shift has been added while a major expansion of the plant is currently underway. This explansion includes a new production line for the Cajun compact SUV that will begin rolling down the production line in 2013.
Compared to the first generation Cayenne that saw 360,000 units built in Leipzig since 2002, the second-generation is off to a brisk start since production started in 2009.
The 100,000th white Cayenne with V8 engine is bound for Brazil.
