That's the puppy. At the moment, I'm thinking the price is too high, but I am waiting for the full options list from him. With no X51 on the Options code, I'm not sure you can ask for the same premium that a factory-fitted X51 would be.

Thanks for the warning. I’ve spoken to the owner who seems a pleasant chap. Has a fair collection of 996s. 3 Turbos, a couple of GT2, a GT3 as well - I think! Some of the photos are older than the others.

I will be treading very carefully however. Thumb

No, he seemed a nice guy but I can’t recall his name. However, the guys at Center Gravity will know who he is and I’m sure they could pass on a message.

Neil, if you want a copy of the install manual drop me a PM and I will e-mail over.

From what I have been able to find out the X51 heads are no difference flow wise than the standard 3.4 heads, you more than most will know that the standard 3.4 heads flow well and there are only very marginal gains to be had from porting, polishing etc.

The additional flow comes in via the revised cams and valves, lift and duration. - The pistons are the standard 3.4 pistons that have been reshaped slightly to allow for the additional valve lift.

I'd really like to take a look at some X51 heads to see what they did.

Mike has found more flow from the stock heads, so whilst they flow well there are improvements to be found.

Interesting to read that they used lash-caps first, then went to longer valves. Suggests that the very first cars were a "lets see if this works".

I'm guessing from the instructions that the head is shaved a little to increase compression - between that and the longer valves/higher lift* you can see why they had to machine deeper reliefs into the pistons.

*If the X51 cams were higher lift, that's an assumption.

As your aware info on the X51 heads & cams is very thin on the ground, in the end I gave up, I have fitted everything bar the heads and their contents and will perhaps revisit in the future.

Below is the only Cam info I could find, it may mean more to you!
