Cayenne won't start, absolutely no power!?

Hi,
I have just bought an accident damaged 2003 Cayenne, it's not to bad although both the drivers and passenger aibags have both gone off. My problem is that I can't get any power to the instrument cluster apart from a faint back light on the computer screen in the middle of the cluster. Also, there are a few other lights coming on for example, the interior light and the key fob locks and unlocks the car, but nothing on the cluster and no sign of anything apart from the odd relay clicking when I turn the key in the ignition.
I have had an auto electrician out to it and he has suggested that it needs to go to a porsche specialist, the problem is that apart from getting the car to them is that I can't get one to even look at it. So I'm really really stuck with this now, I have checked all the fuses and all are fine and I have pressed the yellow reset button next to the battery, I've looked for any obvious signs of damage to the ecu's under the driverside of the dash and under the bonnet and they all look fine. But still no power.

So, I am really hoping that someone can maybe point me in the right direction of either where to look or if you know what module would cause this fault?? or if anyone knows a mobile Porsche auto electrician??

Many thanks in advance, and ANY advice you can offer will be most appreciated.

Anthony.

P.s. Just as a note I think the steering column has been broke as it's not hold the wheel it's just clicking.

A power surge or water ingress after an accident can fry the cluster/blow key fuses. I suggest you consider sending the cluster to a company such as these guys above, to check that your cluster is actually working. I think they charge about £110 to check it for you.

If it is ok and you start messing about with the circuit further downstream you will almost certainly fry something on the cluster.

...but BEFORE sending the cluster away...

Checked the key fuses on the Cayenne. Get hold of the fuse locator and go through each one. Especially no 36 which feeds the Cayennes system control and fuse no 40 which controls the instument panel and 41(ignition) These ones are NOT in the engine compartment(where most people look) but the important fuse no9(engine controls) IS in the engine compartment fuse box.

The side of the dash has a flip cover - remove it to check fuse no, 36, 40 and 41.

If all ok and power is getting to the fuse boxes then I suggest you send your cluster away to get checked.

Thankyou very much for your help, I'll try that tomorrow and let you know how I get on.

Once again, thankyou.

Anthony.

Hi, I've checked those fuses and all the rest on both sides of the dash and in the engine compartment and there all fine. I've also just taken the back off the instrument cluster and there arn't any obvious signs of damage. Would the cluster being faulty cause the car not to start?

Many thanks,

Anthony.

Ok you checked the fuses but did you check that power is getting to the actual circuits(fuse no's that I advised) with ign on?

...are you sure that the ign key is paired with the cars ECU?. If you got a spare key try that also.

The problem you have is that you probably don't know what has happened to the car before you bought it. Parts could have been sold/nicked.

Are you getting an ign light? Do the hazards work?

Did you put a volt meter on the battery. If not do at(and advise the voltage) and let me know that the voltmeter does when you turn the key as if to start the car.

If you have time, an electrical fault finding chart from you would be an excellent resource Wizard! :)

Hint!!! :)
