It's white, so goes with lots of other crockery, it's round, a sandwich fits on it quite nicely, it's quite, well, platelike.
 
Where is Dave when you need him? Would look great on his car! :D

I think you'll find that is a dish. And I don't mean the lady in jeans!
 
When they sold it to me (the "plate", not the lady), they told me it was the world's largest plate.

To be fair, as long as I can sip my Earl Grey off it (the "plate", not the lady), I don't care what you call it.
